I get a lot of my books from thrift books. I know a lot of the time they're not in the best shape, but I like buying them there because it's cheap. plus it usually says what kind of shape the book is in. I think it's really best if you're not sure if you're going to like a book, you're going to annotate a book, or you need it for school.🤷
If you haven't already, get a Libby account! You can read so many books for free, and they work on Kindle or just on your computer/phone. It's how I read Kindle now, I haven't bought a book on there since September!
Read the acknowledgments and the bio about the author before you get a book. You can sometimes weed out books by doing that. I was going to get a book at the library, but then I read the author's bio, and it turns out the author was a member of the LGBTQ. The ones I've seen before like that ended up having that in the books. It doesn't work all the time, but it's a useful trick I have found.
