Kate - I have three of those books waiting to be read.

Colleen - congrats. Have fun.

message 4: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 174 comments OO! Cool Kate! The First Queen of England is interesting and The Lady Elizabeth is pretty good! Alison Weir took some liberties with it (although nothing like Phillipa Gregory), but its pretty good.

Thanks Lyn! I am thinking to replace two Amy Tan books and to finally get "Monster of Venice" I am hoping if I plan shrewdly I can stretch $50 to buy me 5 books, I am kind of holding back and waiting for a borders coupon to appear in my e-mail box.

message 6: by Mandy (new)

Mandy | 7 comments I'm reading The Lady Elizabeth right now. It's very good.
I won't be going on any sprees for awhile. I have to exhaust the stock at the library first.

message 7: by Darkpool (new)

Darkpool | 61 comments Just received Annette Carson's Richard the Third The Maligned King in the mail at the weekend. I've been looking forward to this one... tho I may not get around to reading it for a while. I have a few books backed up at the library.

Oooh! Have fun spending that gift card, Colleen!

Great finds Kate and love the post too :)

Colleen - that's awesome. I wish someone would give me a gift card for books!

Darkpool, thanks for sharing. I've added that book to my list :)

I haven't really gone on a spree lately either. The last book I got was London The Biography by Peter Ackroyd. Not royalty specific but of course, you can't do a bio on London without them :)

Right now, I know a little bit about her youngest daughter, Beatrice, since I read a biography on her so I'm glad I'll have a chance to learn about her other daughters as well.

Just thought I would share what I got with my birthday gift card:

The Kings Confidante by Jean Plaidy
The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber
The Monster of Florence Douglas Preston
The Queens Sorrow by Suzannah Dunn

message 29: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) | 125 comments I have The Monster of Florence on my WTBR shelves. It reminds me of The Garden of Good and Evil. Ihope it's entertaining and educational.

I also like Preston's series, with Lincoln Child, about Agent Pendergast. Smart suspence novels.

Only one of those I have/read is the Queens Sorrow by Suzannah Dunn. Her books were just OK to me. For some reason they tend to leave me wanting more. This one while is Supposed to be about the Queen really does not have her in it much at all.

I just purchased more books. Yes big surprise there. Half. com is a wonderful place. That and I happened to stop in the book store yesterday too.

Newest ones (some still waiting to arrive)

Eve A Novel of the First Woman
How Do I Love Thee?
Pemberley Or Pride and Prejudice Continued
Rashi's Daughters Joheved
The Secret Magdalene A Novel
The Queen's Lady
Wisdom's Daughter A Novel of Solomon and Sheba
Lucifer's Flood

The Kings Daugher is Kyles Second book. It was good. More about the fictional characters than the royalty there in but a good book. The one I just ordered is supposed to be about the mother of the main girl in the Kings Daughter.

I will let you know. I have not gotten it in the mail yet but it looked good from the description. There is another book that is a biblical fiction about Eve I am still looking for at a good price.
The one above said it is the retelling of Eves story and about her and Adam.
The other book is called Havah by Tosca Lee and the description of it says it is about Eve and Adam as well as Lilith.
I will have to get that book as well. I think the contrast in the 2 books should be interesting.

I'll be interested to see what you think of them. She has a third book in the series called The Queen's Captive that will be released in August. It's set during the time that Elizabeth is imprisoned in the Tower of London.

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) | 125 comments I was wondering if anyone would agree that it would be nice to start our own library of what we own. Of course there would be no checkouts:) but it would be a great resource for books about the various topics we all enjoy. It would be its' own thread and you would update your list as you buy new books. We would try not to have books repeated on lists. Please express your opinion honestly, I have thick skin. This was just an idea that struck me this morning.

Here's an example:
The Plantagenet Prelude - Plaidy - Eleanor of Aquitaine and the King of France - F

The War of the Roses - Weir - NF

Nefertiti - Moran - F

That would be a good way to keep track of them. Not sure how hard it would be to get going.
In this group in the bookshelf area we could set it up more by locations/area and and divide by HF and NF. It would grow fast and would be easy to go in to the bookshelf area to find new ones to add to your own to find/to read lists once it had a chance to grow.

I don't know how to use the bookshelf. I'm glad so many of you are interested! I just don't have the GR knowledge on how to get it started

I think it would be nice to be organized by F & NK with each person doing their best to organize their books according to country or time period.

So Wen if you could help me get started by showing me how to set up a bookshelf, I will be the first to list their books.

Only thing I really know about the bookshelf is how to add a book. I think the mods will have to set the folders up and all if I am not mistaken??? Jennifer, Colleen, Lyn...is that right?

message 48: by Jennifer, Group Founder/Mod #1 (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 726 comments Mod
I think so Wen... I just had a quick look and we should be able to add shelves. I'm guessing once we add them everyone will be able to add books to them? I've never done it before so I don't know for sure... Maybe you all could let us know what shelves you want?

Great idea Susan!

message 49: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) | 125 comments Thanks! We could even give the book a rating 1-5 so people know what we thought. Put a 0 if you haven't read it yet.

I would have a shelf for each royal category we have, like: egypt, russia, france and english.

You could maybe list like this:

Under France
To The Scaffold Erickson NF 4 Susan C

Now remember, I have no idea how the bookshelves work. What's even possible, but that is what I see in my head.

message 50: by Jennifer, Group Founder/Mod #1 (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 726 comments Mod
Okay, I went into the bookshelf area and tried organizing the books by type. Some shelves haven't been set up yet (German for one) as I think we have to have a book there in order to set up a new shelf for it if that makes sense. Now that I've set up the shelves are others able to add books and pick which shelf to add the book to?

I don't know if this is what you meant Susan. Were you looking to do it in the bookshelf area or actually start a new thread with each of us listing the books we own? Either way, we can do it.
