Starting this one now! All my sapphic friends have been telling me to read it for AGES so I'm happy to have an excuse to move it up my TBR list

I'd love to buddy the series! I already have Harrow out from the library so I can start whenever you want

Awesome. I'm in the midst of another series but should be done in the next couple of days. Do you want to set it for today and I'll jump in a couple days later?

I'm also reading some other stuff atm. I know I won't finish the whole second book by the end of May and I want to use it for the June challenge, so I set the date of the thread for June 1!

Sounds good, I haven't started this one yet and am on a work trip where I forgot my ereader so I'll be listening which slows me down.

Was it only you who read it, Saige? What a shame! (How did it get all the votes? This always confuses me)
Well, I started it today and will hopefully still get in before the 5th *fingers crossed* I have read it once before, but I haven't even recorded it; I was feverish and decided it didn't count if I couldn't remember it ROFL.

I adore this series but the beginning is very what the hell is happening. It all makes sense by the end but it's quite the journey to get there.

Poor Gideon with this vow of silence and fucking Harrow excluding her, if they’d just worked together from the beginning they’d be so much farther along. Har..."
I still don't know what planet the first house is! Should I know by now??
Also agree it's QUITE the journey lol. I am still confused tbh. The style is FUN, but surprisingly hard to read if that makes sense? It's actually very dense - it's a kind of juxtaposition...

I started it with audio for the first few chapters too and that got me into the style, but then I switched to reading. It's certainly odd, isn't it? :P

Oh, I forgot to say Gideon's sunglasses are EPIC - my favourite part ;)

oh good I'm happy to hear that!! I'm sticking it through to the end :) hoping to get through a chunk tonight

Sorry for the rambling! I don't know if I'll finish this in time - I have to talk to Kit de Vaal tomorrow (!!) as a represent for my IRL book club about the Women's Prize nominees tomorrow, so my reading time will be spent preparing for that... exciting and nerve-wracking!
(That was more rambling. I'd better stop now.)

(view spoiler)

Yeah, I LOL'd at that scene too!
I'm finished too, but have hardly any time to write anything - glad I have tomorrow to do the review, but barely 😅

This makes me feel better, it's Earth. A friend of mine read it and picked it up immediately and I felt dumb but clearly she's just very astute.

Haha yes this was so funny and also I love the audiobook, Moira Quirk is one of my favorite narrators she's so good.

Yeah no I didn’t get that right away either… oops HAHA but up to act 3!! (view spoiler)

Okay, further thoughts (sorry I am not going to write much because I have about half a spoon due to stupid medication withdrawal, but I want to get BOTM points lol.) (Do other people know about spoons? I have no spoons to explain)

Umm... that's about it. Sorry for the non-coherence!

The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.
Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.
Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse. She packs up her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and prepares to launch her daring escape. But her childhood nemesis won't set her free without a service.
Harrowhark Nonagesimus, Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House and bone witch extraordinaire, has been summoned into action. The Emperor has invited the heirs to each of his loyal Houses to a deadly trial of wits and skill. If Harrowhark succeeds she will become an immortal, all-powerful servant of the Resurrection, but no necromancer can ascend without their cavalier. Without Gideon's sword, Harrow will fail, and the Ninth House will die.
Of course, some things are better left dead.
