Tom has decreed that March Madness runner up Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton will be our May pick.

Let us know what you think

J Austill | 125 comments Pretty stoked. I was voting for Dungeon Crawler Carl, the whole way through the tournament. But then I read it (loved it) but wanted to vote for something to read, so I started gunning for Mickey 7.

Booked it, at the library, while we were voting, and still haven't come up. Maybe I will get it in May.

Trike | 11192 comments I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I immediately read the sequel Antimatter Blues. Both were 4-star reads for me.

Looks like I read the sequel 2 years ago today.

Ruth | 1778 comments Wait, there’s another book pick already? But I’m not done bingeing the whole Dungeon Crawler Carl series yet!

Ruth | 1778 comments … on the plus side, there’s a copy at my local library so getting hold of it won’t be a problem

Chris K. | 414 comments I've started and I'm liking it so far.

Leif (leffa) | 23 comments I had just read Dungeon Crawler Carl when that won March madness, so I read Mickey 7 instead (I got it gifted by a player in my RPG group). So the second time in a row I have read the monthly pick. It has just happened twice before in the decade I've read along (and it wasn't twice in a row). It was good though.

terpkristin | 4407 comments I wanted neither book to win March Madness and was very meh on Dungeon Crawler Carl, so I'm not really "excited" about it, but as with DCC, trying to keep an open mind. Looked for a copy of it at my friendly local independent bookstore but couldn't find it, also not available at my library through libby. So I guess I'll get it from Amazon or maybe Audible, but won't bother until closer to the start of the month.

Then you can clue us in on what the June pick will be. :)

I read the The Blacktongue Thief for another book club, so if that one's chosen it's a conspiracy :P

I'm a few chapters in. I think your enjoyment will probably depend on how you feel about the main character. He's....something else.

I got it on libro.fm and if it's the same narrator as Audible (every once in a while the narrator seems pegged to the publisher/store) I like the narrator's voice. I think it matches Mickey's personality quite well. Actually that version also has a female narrator, but either I was too focused on the story to notice the narrator shifted when there was a female character speaking or they haven't shown up yet.

Finally, compared to a much younger self, I'm much less of a spoiler hater because a good book (other than a mystery or detective story) should be able to be good enough to be enjoyed even with spoilers. Even so, I was annoyed that the book blurb on libro.fm gives away a chapter 1 (or maybe chapter 2) spoiler that creates the main conflict of the book. It would have been more enjoyable without that.

Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 672 comments I forgot to say that this is my first time reading along with the group since Legends and Lattes and I look forward to discussion!

Nah. Couple years ago I read like 9 of the S&L picks before they were chosen, so you’ve got a way to go my friend.
