So I’ve been seeing online recently that when TTPD came our people were getting upset at the verse:

My friends used to play a game where
We would pick a decade
We wished we could live in instead of this
I'd say the 1830s but without all the racists and getting married off for
the highest bid

I’m genuinely wondering if someone could explain why people were offended by that. I’m not trying to start anything. I just want to understand.

I took it to mean that she wanted to go to the romantic period. Because that’s what the 1830s were called

But then she goes on to say:

Everyone would look down
Cause it wasn't fun now
Seems like it was never even fun back then
Nostalgia is a mind's trick
If I'd been there, I'd hate it
It was freezing in the palace

Which I interpreted as her saying that she understands that the 1830s “weren’t fun” and that she acknowledges that she would hate it everywhere except in her mind.

But that’s just my opinion. I’d love it if someone could let me know if I missed something
