Jason Oliver | 3046 comments I recently watched the Netflix movie "Society of the Snow" and learned for the first time of the plane crash in the Andes mountains carrying an Uruguayan rugby team along with friends and family. Some survived the 72 days in the harsh, freezing, and snowy climate in the Andes. Out of the Silence: After the Crash is a firsthand account of surviving, reintegrating into society, revisiting the site, and having this trauma and tragedy as part of his past.

This is such a tragic but also hopeful. Eduardo tells, without gruesome and gory details, of how they survived and the spiritual experience as well. Eduardo viewpoint is different than I expected, very deep and intelligent.

The story is not chronological, but instead focuses on themes of the experience. After the movie and this firsthand account, I have a desire to read all the available memoirs of survival.

Joy D | 10090 comments I remember reading a book about this accident many years ago. If you are looking for more, the name of the book I read is: Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors by Piers Paul Read. I have not read it, but I remember hearing about a memoir by one of the survivors: Miracle in the Andes by Nando Parrado.

Joy D | 10090 comments That's a great list for a deep dive! Alive was not done by one of the survivors but it did come out not long after the crash.
