Pamela Mason | 3 comments Hi everyone,

I’m looking for 2–3 beta readers for my completed memoir, Monster Inside Him (82,000 words), a true story about surviving emotional abuse, coercive control, and the legal system as a single mother. It’s a raw, emotionally driven narrative about breaking free, protecting my children, and rebuilding after unimaginable betrayal.

Synopsis:
I thought I had married a charming, ambitious man. But behind closed doors, he controlled everything—my body, my voice, even my sense of reality. As the years passed, I became a stranger to myself, sacrificing everything to keep our family intact. When I discovered the truth—that he was not only lying to me but harming our child—I finally walked away. But escaping him didn’t end the abuse. It just changed the battlefield. This is a story about what it means to survive, to fight back, and to find your voice after it’s been stolen.

If you connected with books like A Beautiful, Terrible Thing by Jennifer Waite or Know My Name by Chanel Miller, this story may resonate with you.

Compensation:
• Flat rate: $100
• Split into $50 upfront, $50 upon completion
• Paid via PayPal or Venmo
• A basic NDA + beta reader agreement required before sending the manuscript

Looking for:
• Memoir lovers and trauma-informed readers
• Honest feedback on pacing, tone, emotional impact, and clarity
• Reader reactions—what resonates, what falls flat, what lingers

Content Warning:

This memoir includes themes of emotional abuse, coercive control, child abuse, and sexual assault. These topics are not graphic but are central to the story and may be triggering to some readers.

If you’re interested, please comment or DM me with a bit about yourself, your experience (if any), and your general availability. I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you so much!

Hi Pamela,

I'm an editor, and I own Beta Reader Bookings LLC. I personally vet my readers. However, I'd be interested in taking this project myself. I would be approaching it as a reader, not an editor. I work with a lot of memoirs, and I'll link to my bio below.

About the owner: https://bookabetareader.com/about-the...

I'm fine with signing an agreement and NDA. However, I require payment in full before the reading begins, and the cost through my company would be $150. (You can view the appropriate service here: https://bookabetareader.com/book/memo...)

My company is registered in the State of New York, and I bill via the company's PayPal.

If you decide you'd like to work with me, feel free to send an email to admin@bookabetareader.com. I'll link to client testimonials below.

Just send you a friend request! If you have yet to choose a beta reader, I'd love to be considered.

My feedback includes overall plot and development report, in-line commentary and character feedback among several others. Details of my service can be found here https://www.narrativenook.blog/servic... and testimonials directly from authors can be found here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

The quoted price is similar to my fee, and I will sign an NDA. If you are interested, send me an email at sarah.narrativenook.gmail.com with your preferred delivery date, and we can work our way from there!

John Slow | 2 comments Hi Pamela,
It's interesting that you should take the memoir route for this story.
I think that is an incredibly difficult thing to do.
I have sent you a friend request because I am not brave enough to do likewise.
However I will very much be honoured try and add something to the telling, (not the actual story).
I shall give you an equal story in fair exchange.

Best regards

Melinda Taylor (mtaylor67) | 92 comments I have beta reading, proofreading, and editing experience and have written many book reviews for books on different platforms. I can beta read a book of any length and can work with any book genre. I am hardworking, reliable, responsible, organized, detail oriented and meet deadlines. I am an effective cross functional communicator, rapid and adaptive learner, committed high receiver, skilled collaborator, dynamic solution-oriented professional. I love beta reading, proofreading, editing and writing reviews and look forward to writing yours.
I am interested in your book. It sounds like an amazing story. I am trying to get back into beta reading, proofreading, and editing after a hiatus and this would be a wonderful start. I have experience with a variety of genres and would love to find out if we are a good fit. I have worked with authors on Goodreads, Amazon, and Upwork. I am excited to get started since I love to read and review books. I look forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best in your book's success whether you choose me to work with or not.
Here are my Upwork reviews:
"Melinda delivered excellent work on this project and we enjoyed working with her. Her communication was top-notch, she met all deadlines, and her skills were strong. She adapted and learned whatever had to be learned. At one point we asked for an additional milestone, and she was very forthcoming and happy to meet our new, changing requirements. She was hands-on through the entire process. Her greatest strength has to do with seeing the tiny details, some of which we did not see ourselves. On a personal note, I enjoyed working with her and undoubtedly have additional jobs for her in the future. Don’t hesitate. Hire her!"

"I would work with Melinda again. Her prompt communication, adherence to deadlines, and cooperation was much appreciated, and mark her as a true professional. She's very skilled at what she does, and I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you!"

"Great work! Will definitely rehire for future projects requiring reviews."

"Amazing job! Would definitely recommend her!"

"Excellent job"
