I got it from a library from the years 2014-2018. It was set in a dystopian or futuristic society and featured a 10-16 yr old male main character (it was targeted toward younger audiences, but i dont know how young). He had a pet ferret (Edit: I think the name might have been Hawkeye) (it possibly could have been a different type of animal). He discovered that the city he lives in is fake, in one specific scene he saw wires from the sky that could have been for surveillance or just "fake sky", I don't remember. Near the beginning of the book, he gets a bad headache and goes to sleep, when he wakes up he is able to talk to her (his pet), possibly by telepathic communication or strong intuition between them. She (his pet) was also extremely intelligent and I believe this (and the psychic connection) was possible through a chip that was implanted in her brain. Someone was chasing him in the book (the bad guys) and when he escaped the city, it was similar to a wasteland, but I don't remember specific details about that. He passed out from something (possibly from no food or water, an injury of some kind, or his headaches) and some people found him. Through partial consciousness, he hears the woman who found him (possibly named Jenny) and a man (possibly named Eli) talking. She mentions a prophecy featuring a boy with a ferret because the man doesn't want help him, and maybe she mentions he's the one who "saves them" or fights the bad guys (I could accidently be making this specific "saving them" part up)? and then the book ends. I looked it up around the time I read it and there wasn't a sequel, but there might or might not be one now. It ended on a big cliffhanger that has been bothering me for years! I know finding this book won't help with that, but I would like to search for the sequel again and at the least read it again, since I enjoyed it. Any possible info would be appreciated!

Krislynne | 6 comments Could it be "Catseye" by Andre Norton is a science fiction novel from 1961? That book follows a young boy named Troy Horan who discovers he can talk to animals through telepathy. This includes a kinkajou and several exotic cats. The story is set in a dystopian world. Troy uncovers a conspiracy and escapes into dangerous ruins with his animal friends. While i'm not sure of the other details, major themes remain similar. These are telepathic communication with an intelligent animal, a controlled society, and a young male hero. Please confirm. Thanks
