A thread to discuss the novel "Poor Deer" by Claire Oshetsky (lark!!)

Just wanted to say sorry Lark, I’m sure the inclusion of Poor Deer here must be creating conflicting emotions for you. The ToF did finally give me the nudge to read it, and I agree with all others who have previously praised it. Thank you for sharing this story with the world, and parts of your journey as its author with this community, even if it has put you in an awkward spot right now.

Hi McKenzie. Please don’t worry about this, I have a new novel coming out in Feb and I’m working in the one after that and it feels like someone else wrote Poor Deer at this stage. As much as possible people shouldn’t worry about expressing negative opinions. I won’t take it at all personally. I’ve learned a lot from the negative reviews here on GR actually. These reviews have consistently pointed out the same flaws. This book is not me. It’s a book.

That said, i was a little sad not to be able to volunteer to judge. Now that would be weird.

THIS. I appreciate your understanding of craft in this way. While I'm not a writer I am a fiber creator (knitting, crocheting, garment sewing) and yes: this is how to approach craft. You can't internalize it.

"Evil Genius." I hear it's funny but who knows. I think "My Sister the Serial Killer" is a pretty good comp for it. I'm not allowed to share the cover yet but the illustration is sorta campy-noir, a drawing of the back of a man's head with a woman's hands wrapped around his neck in a way that might be a caress, or maybe she's choking him.

Oooooh, I'm in line for Evil Genius! I loved My Sister the Serial Killer, and both Oshetsky books, so I'm super excited for this next one!
