Sorry I didn't post last time. I am actually on a long vacation! It's a staycation so far but we've been doing day trips and such; we bought an inflatable kayak and might take that on a longer trip soon.
Three Bags Full - This is billed as a "sheep detective story" and apparently crossed my radar a decade after publication because there is a movie in the works (although I didn't realize that until I got the library hold and it had Hugh Jackman's name on the back). It was fun, but the sheep basically just "detect" based on vibes. I was a bit annoyed by a short essay from the author that was included after the novel in which she prided herself on the minimal anthropomorphization of the sheep, which, no.
The Feminist Bird Club's Birding for a Better World: A Guide to Finding Joy and Community in Nature - This was a short book basically advocating for social justice in the birding community. It was fine, but I'm not sure I learned anything directly useful to me.
A Power Unbound - The final book of this trilogy did wrap up the loose ends sufficiently. Overall I think the series was good but... I don't want to say "not for me", more like "not at the bullseye of my interests".
QOTW: I like the morning if I can start it whenever I want, which is generally later than employment requires. During the week, my husband and I usually walk around the neighborhood after dinner, which is nice when it's hot during the day (although frankly it is often still hot at night, just less so). I would say I don't like afternoons, but that's usually when I get myself together to go out to a greenway or nature preserve on the weekends, so... all the times of day?

I was away last week and couldn't get a post out. So this is a two week checkin. Exciting news, I became a grandmother today! My son and DIL had their baby boy during the night. They live across the country so we'll be going out near the end of the month to visit and meet the baby. My daughter and SIL, who also live across the country are due near the end of the month.
No one commented on the last post so I hope everyone is doing well and you're all still out there!
Over the last two weeks I finished These Trees Tell a Story: The Art of Reading Landscapes and Life Derailed. I was close on both of those on the last check in.
I'm now listening to The Briar Club for neighborhood book club. I am actually enjoying this selection, which is somewhat rare for me and the book club! I'm about 30% through but can recommend it so far. The meeting is next week, I hope I can finish in time, but I will keep reading it even if not in time.
I'm reading If Tomorrow Never Comes which was an Amazon First Reads choice. I am also enjoying this quite a bit too. More than I expected at least. So for the moment I'm happy with the reads I have going on.
QOTW:
What is your favorite time of day?
I think for me, now in our retired time, it is morning. I'm almost always down a while before my husband and I like that time to make my breakfast and just start my day. It is calm and quiet and I'm just slowly getting moving.
