Amy | 12932 comments I became very engrossed in this quiet quirky book. Just when you think all the tropes have been exhausted - comes a very character driven novella from Anne Tyler. Reading Anne Tyler feels a little bit like home. I haven't read her in many years and she spends a lot of time deep in her character's inner lives and relationships. At the center of this quick novel is Gail, who is the mother of the bride. Set at the three days surrounding her daughter's wedding (only child), her ex-husband surprisingly arrives with a cat (whom the groom is allergic too) and this is the story of Gail in flux and transition, managing her feelings about her daughter's wedding and new life, her career, her ex, and everything that has brought her to this point. Three days with Gail, Max, and Debbie is quietly forever changing for each of them. It was simply beautifully done. I loved it. This one will stay with me a long while.

Joy D | 10110 comments I really enjoyed this one, too! Tyler's work can be hit or miss for me, but this one is definitely a hit.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11084 comments There really is something special about her writing. Sometimes, even when I don’t like the characters at first, she gives them so much depth, I can’t help but care about them. A few didn’t work, but the ones that did are great memories.

I was on a waiting list for this book since I read Joy’s review, but the Wait is still 22 weeks long. Amy I saw your review just in time to buy it in Audible’s big summer sale. I was building up my wishlist for a long time in anticipation of this sale.

Robin P | 5760 comments I like her too and I think this one had more depth than the last couple. I haven't done her on audio, but I'm sure they work well in that format.
