Silver. I know she gets a book later and she might get a redemption arc of sorts, but right now, I've never seen a bigger bitch than her. I loathe her with every fiber of my being and plus she's such a bully. As a person who's been bullied a lot, I hate it. I hate that she makes other people even more conscious about their insecurities, it's just not fair and downright mean. I'm also not very fond of Aiden at the moment. One, I can't trust him. Two, he's a control freak. Three, he expects everyone to just go along with what he wants. Four, he touched her without her permission. And I'm pretty sure those reasons are enough for me to not like the guy.

Just when I thought I'd started to like Aiden, he messes up. Bad. The way he is with Elsa, i just can't. But then what he went through as a child made me literally cry. I still don't like Silver, and i don't get how she even fits in the plot. She's everywhere, it's annoying. And then Elsa's mom, i understand she lost a child but what she did was unforgivable...the whole thing is fucked up..but im still gonna read the third book. Seriously tho, there was too much unnecessary sex.

What I personally would change in the let them theory book, would have been the description part in some of the chapters. As it wasn’t necessary for all part to explain everything in detail, Like they would have been a cut of 50 pages from my opinion. Even though some others will think differently as it depends on what parts other readers found interesting for themselves.

Aiden And Elsa, it's obvious but, this book changed my perspective for them. I may not love Aiden but I can't deny he loves and cares for Elsa although there was too much sex. The fact that Aiden sleeps with his head on her chest just to see that her heart is working properly is...aww. It's everything. And what his tattoos signify, the only reason i gave it 1.5 stars less is because some parts were just....unnecessary and confusing and Aiden got too much at certain parts. This book was really important for their storyline and to understand the plot.

I'd rather the book not be so rushed and be 200 pages longer. We didn't even see Kimmy's healing journey. So, Xander finds out Kim is his sister....and what does he do? He makes her feel guilty for something he wasn't even angry about. He torments her for years and years. He bullies her. He wasn't even hurt about going in the forest but rather what he heard there. He takes all her friends, makes everyone bully her, drives her to the point of no return, and then has the audacity to say he'd loved her all along. I'm just so done with this guy, if i could change anything, it'd be that he'd grovel more for what he did. As a person who self harms, it isn't nice to be reminded of one's insecurities. by bullying her, he did just that, he made her feel inadequate and that's just not okay. at all.

My least favorite character in BROKEN COUNTRY is Gabriel Wolfe, the third in this epic love triangle of Frank-Beth-Gabriel. Gabriel is all the stuff that make a young country farm girl's head swoon: he's gorgeous, rich, and absolutely smitten with Beth. Their first love story is beautiful but not suitable or sustainable when both attend college. An open diary/journal, and Beth's heart is broken. Sure, it would be easy to HATE Gabriel's mother for she is that unhappy alcoholic but without her, Gabriel wouldn't be my least favorite character.

This one is easy: Priscilla Presley. How her careless mothering made this precious girl, the only child of the King, feel so alone and unwanted. Sending her away, ignoring her wildness, controlling Lisa when it was nothing to be generous, present and listening, exposing her to weak touchy-feely men. Yes, I could say Ginger, but skanks are to be ignored and she is a nothing to this day. Yes, I'm a huge Elvis fan. (+10)
✏️ Which character would you most want to meet?
Given that the ones I most want to meet - Elvis Presley and Lisa Marie Presley - are no longer here to befriend, I would say meeting 60-year-old Danny Keough would be awesome. As the ex-husband, his love for Lisa Marie spanned decades and it was no surprise that he was there administering CPR as she went into cardiac arrest. (+10)
✏️ What character did you think was the most important in the book? The most important character in this must-read piece of Americana is of course, Elvis Presley, for without his omnipotent presence in her life and through his death, this peek into Lisa Marie's troubled, addicted life would be misunderstood. Addiction is such a twisted bitch, grabbing one, skipping another for a bit, then rearing up to sink deep into a person. While Elvis only followed what his doctor's prescribed, as his generation did, Lisa Marie's path was post C-section with the twins. How sad that addiction laid dormant for almost 40 years. (+10)

Hah! If I were to change this book, it wouldn't be the beautifully nuanced, darkly thrilling book it is now. Charlotte McConaghy is a writing gem and her characters are flawed. They stick with you because they are authentic, fully dimensional characters who navigate this cold community (literally in this book!) with caution, bravado, and redemptive love.
✏️ What character did you think was the most important in the book? Fen is without a doubt the center of this book as the mysterious woman found battered and torn by the rocky shore after a storm at sea. It is her journey we follow, from recovery, distrust, motives (both known to the others and not shared), past ghosts, and ultimately loving sacrifice.

Dani is the absolute worst! He’s arrogant, self-righteous, and constantly puts Violet down, calling her weak when she’s clearly one of the strongest. He had no right to invade her privacy and expose her memories to his father. Because of that betrayal, so many good characters died unnecessarily. He ruined everything. Ohhh I almost forgot to mention and Jack !!

All my predictions about the book were completely wrong, which drove me crazy, in the best way. Just when I thought I had things figured out, the story would twist in a direction I never saw coming. By the end, I was totally shocked. So many unexpected plot twists kept me on edge, and the way the book ended on a cliffhanger left me speechless. I usually pride myself on being able to guess what’s going to happen, but this time, the author outsmarted me at every turn. It was frustrating, but also thrilling, I couldn’t stop reading.
✏️ If you could spend a free summer vacation with one of the characters who would you choose and where would you go?(+10)
If I could spend a free summer vacation with one of the characters, I’d love to say Xaden because, come on, who wouldn’t? But I’m leaving him with Violet. I’m not about to start drama and have her hunting me down for stealing her man (girl for girl solidarity!). So instead, I’m choosing Ridoc and Liam. Those two would be the perfect combo for a fun, laid-back, and hilarious trip. I can totally imagine us relaxing, joking around. We’d go to Ksamil Beach in Albania; I’ve heard it’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Crystal-clear water, great vibes, and two of the best book besties? Yes, please.
✏️ Which character would you most want to meet? (+10)
If I could meet any character, it’s obviously Violet. She’s strong, smart, and stubborn in the best way. I’d love to just sit and talk with her ask how she keeps pushing forward no matter what’s thrown at her. Plus, I feel like we’d actually vibe pretty well. She’s not perfect, and that’s what makes her so real. I’d want to hear all the behind-the-scenes stuff we didn’t get to read and maybe even spar a little (okay, I’d lose, but still!). Meeting Violet would be like meeting a real-life legend.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. This is a short read, 2 novellas actually. Linda Lael Miller's ONE LONESOME COWBOY is the weakest of the 2 as the HEA is forced with the most ridiculous, unlikely relationship development. For least likeable character in this novella, I gotta give it up for the sister, Becky, who mysteriously goes catatonic. Turns out, as a teen, she witnessed teen boys burying a body. Usual, "don't tell" and she ends up marrying one of them? Um, what? She's unsympathetic, but she's a good mom? Ugh!

If I could change this book, I would definitely reduce the number of characters in ONE LONESOME COWBOY, while conversely introducing supporting characters in COWBOY, TAKE ME AWAY. There are only 2 characters in CTMA, unless you're counting horses. No other influencing characters speak or even show up in the days leading up to the HEA. It's as if they were the last 2 people in central Oregon.

In this dystopian what-the-hell-did-I-just-read book, there is truly no predictor of what to expect with each page turned, so I didn't even try. How could you predict what "the child" would experience in a caged underground with 39 other women and what her unlikely placement meant. The women couldn't remember when or how they came to such imprisonment and with no access to clocks, books, sunlight/moonlight, electronics to indicate passage of time, this is disorientating and unpredictable. Worth a read if you need your mind blown and feeling people are just too too much...this will make you grateful for them.
✏️ What character did you think was the most important in the book?
The more I learn about the author, the more I appreciated reading this book which leads me to think the most important character in this book is the author herself. To lose so many of her father's family to the Nazis correlates to the 39 women and 1 female child who are capriciously captive and guarded by men who do not speak or interact at all. To hear a whip if the women touch/hug, to have no privacy at all, to not know your fate or even why you're imprisoned, speaks to the toil it took on Harpman and her surviving family.

If I could spend a free summer vacation with one of the characters, I would choose Nan from One Golden Summer and Bennett. I would love to go to Barry’s Bay. Being there with Nan would feel comforting and full of warmth she’s the kind of person who makes every place feel like home. And with Bennett by my side, it would be even more special. We'd spend our days by the water, talking for hours, swimming, and watching the sun set over the lake. It would be the kind of summer you never forget calm, meaningful, and full of little moments that stay with you forever.

✏️ Who is your least favorite character?
While both Odessa's and the Guardian's fathers are sus, that would be easy to say they are dislikeable. Both kings have to navigate treachery and monster-infested lands and live a life of kingdom building and sustaining so moving on. I know he wasn't given much significance in this book, but Odessa's intended bridegroom story arc made him utterly worthy of flaying.
✏️ What were your predictions of the book? Were they right?
Without giving away too much, one of my predictions came true when the Guardian's motives regarding Odessa where confirmed. Especially since he was spending more time with his Queen than her own husband. But no, there were too many twists in plots and subplots to have anticipated, let alone predicted too far ahead. Excellent world building requires such a cast of disparate characters and man, there are some great ones in SHIELD OF SPARROWS.

This will be a long term challenge. Challenge will START ON June 17th, 2025 and will END ON July 22nd 2025! That is a total of 5 weeks. We will announce the winning team on July 23rd, 2025! EVERYONE WILL NEED TO HAVE ALL BOOKS LOGGED BY July 22, 2025 by midnight (according to your time zone.) ANYTHING LOGGED AFTER MIDNIGHT WILL NOT BE COUNTED FOR POINTS.
RULES:
✔️ ALL books that are read DURING the challenge, will HAVE TO be between those dates if you want points.
✔️ If you DNF a book, (Did Not Finish), you ARE NOT ALLOWED to log that book for points.
✔️ In order to get the full amount of points for your team when it comes to personal reviews, all prompts - you will need to follow the point system that is down below!
✔️ Every book that is read for the challenge, HAS TO BE OVER 100+ pages in order to count for points. Anything less than 100+ pages will NOT count.
✔️ Comic books ARE NOT allowed in the challenge. Physical copies and audiobooks only!
✔️ ANY books you finish need to be LOGGED WITHIN 48 HOURS. We think this is a fair timeframe, but if you need more time after finishing a book please let me or Yeehawwlovesbooks know.
WAYS TO EARN POINTS FOR YOUR TEAM:
Everyone who joins will make points for your team based off how long the book is and if you choose to do prompts. Point system is down below as well as how everyone will log books!
100-200 pages- 5 points
201-300 pages- 10 points
301-400 pages- 15 points
401-500 pages- 20 points
500+ pages pages- 35 points

Buddy reads are (+6) points
If you choose to read a BOTM (Book Of The Month), then it will be (+6) points.
ONE TIME bonus if your birthday is in June or July. (+8)
If you join a Moderator read, that will automatically be (+10) points. You have to finish the book in order to get the full amount of points.
Any books that ARE FINISHED on 4th Of July WILL BE DOUBLE POINTS!

There will be a total of 2 teams for this challenge! Lilly and Yeehawwlovesbooks will be the team captains for the groups. Please understand that we will try to put you on your desired team, but if you don't get it we are trying to make teams fair as possible. BE RESPECTFUL OF TEAM MATES AND TEAM CAPTAINS!
Please if you are NOT going to help with points, let us know as soon as possible so we can find someone who is willing to join and help out. If you do sign up, if you are not active for the first week of sign ups, you will get a message from your team captain asking if something is wrong or if you still planning on contributing...... if you don't respond or make points YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE TEAM! It's not fair to those who are making points and people aren't helping.
