Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2594 comments Excellent story! This will be among my favorites for 2025, for sure. The story moves between the stories of Jenna and Alice. Alice was Jenna's mother, and she disappeared when Jenna was just 3 years old. Jenna is 13 years old at the time of the story. She has her mother's journals and knows her through those. She's determined to find out what happened to her mother who was only injured in a terrible accident and then disappeared from the hospital. Some of the chapters are Alice and they are from her notes and diaries.

Alice lives with her grandmother, Jenna is very wily, and manages to do many things without her grandmother knowing. She's really amazing, getting around so easily as she searches for her mother. She enlists two wonderful characters, a private investigator (very curmudgeonly) and a psychic who feels she has lost her powers but Jenna believes in her.

The story is exciting, and the writing about the elephant research is amazing. I found myself falling in love with elephants. The end is really excellent.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11061 comments I adored this book, it surprised me in so many ways, I loved the elephant research and the ending too. It’s different from the other books I read by this author. It’s less deliberate

That's so funny. I like her books because there usually is twist. I'm pretty sure there's one here.
