Nils and Mikkjel's Dorm

Nils opened the dorm room with his key, having just come back from class. He sat on his bed, exhausted after such a long day. Admittedly, he didn't get much sleep the night before. He stayed up later than usual studying and finishing homework for his classes. He was glad that school was done for the day so that he could relax and not have to worry about school. Nils looked at his phone, glancing at Mikkjel's name. Mikkjel was his roommate, and they surprisingly got along well. They had each other's numbers in case they needed to communicate if they weren't in the dorm. Nils debated texting Mikkjel, but decided against. He was probably almost done with classes and on the way, so he figured that it would be a waste of time.
Mikkjel entered the dorm, having just finished classes for the day. He closed the door behind him, placing his bag on the ground. He sat at his desk. He had some homework he had to do, but he wasn't going to concern himself with that right. Maybe he should, though. Maybe he should try harder in school. He owed it to his mother, he thought. She had worked so hard in raising and caring for him. It was the least he could do. He disregarded the thought, absent-mindedly spinning around in his chair. He looked over at Nils, acknowledging him with a nod. "Hey Nils. What's up?"
Nils heard the door open and saw Mikkjel place his things on the ground. Yep. I figured he would be back soon. He watched as his roommate spin around in the chair. Funny. For some reason, it was entertaining for him to see Mikkjel mindlessly spin himself in the chair. A part of him was bored, so he supposed maybe that was why. "Nothing. Just tired from a long day" he said after a few moments of silence. He glanced around the room quickly before turning his attention back to Mikkjel. "What about you?"
Mikkjel stopped the chair from spinning, staying still as Nils answered his question. He couldn't help but give a slight smirk when his roommate spoke. "Me? Not much either. Just got back from classes. You know, typical school day." He paused, listeningnas Nils recounted his exhaustion. "Tired, huh? I suppose you wouldn't be interested in going to the cafe or playing basketball at the park then?"
Nils chuckled as Mikkjel answered his question. "Typical school? At this school, nothing is typical or normal around. That's just how it is" he said. "Besides, I thought you didn't care about school. No offense, of course" he joked. Nils knew that Mikkjel wouldn't be mad at him for saying that though. He knew his roommate long enough to know that. "Maybe later or tomorrow. I might rest for a little while. I don't think I have the energy to leave the dorm now.'
Mikkjel laughed along with Nils. "Trust me, I know that. Neither the school nor any of us are normal" he said in agreement. He smirked again as Nils continued speaking. "None taken. And you're right. Admittedly, I should probably start caring about school more often. It's hard to focus when it doesn't interest me, though. I'll still try my best to do well. I owe to my mom after everything she's been through." Mikkjel brought up his mother to Nils a few times but didn't talk about her much. Not that he felt uncomfortable about it, he just didn't feel the need to. He waved his hand dismissively. "No, I get it. If you're too tired, we can wait until tomorrow. No problem."
"That's true. No one here is normal" Nils said. He nodded along as Mikkjel spoke, agreeing with his remarks. "I understand that. I tend to get bored of things that don't interest me either. Although I'm pretty sure most people are like that, so no surprise there." He paused, thinking for a moment. "If you don't mind me asking, what's your mom like? If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. I just figured that I would ask." He gave a slight smile. "Well, if you don't mind, yeah, we can go to the cafe tomorrow if you'd like."
Mikkjel gave a small smirk. "Agreed. Why pay attention to something if it doesn't interest you at all? At least, that's my philosophy" he said. He raised an eyebrow at Nils' question. "My mom? Well, she's just like any other mom, I suppose. She's kind and cares about everyone that she meets. She's funny and likes to tell jokes. And smart, too. But I think that the thing I admire her the most for is her hard work. She's certainly no slouch when it comes to that." He smiled as he talked about his mother. She truly is an amazing woman. He was surprised that Nils asked about her, but he didn't mind. "What about your mom?" He nodded his in agreement. "Sounds like a plan to me."
Nils nodded his head in agreement. "I suppose you have a point there. I can agree with you on that" he said. He listened with interest as Mikkjel talked about his mother. It made him think about his own mother. "She tends to be more serious and strict. But she's still kind and wants what's best for me. I've always looked up to my mother too. Your mom sounds like a nice woman." Talking about their mothers made Nils miss her. He wished that he was here with him right now. He gave a slight smile. "Good."
Mikkjel gave a slight smirk. "I'm glad that we can agree on that." He listened as Nils spoke about his mother. "My mom is pretty similar to yours, then. In terms of personality at least." He smiled. "Yeah, she is a nice woman. Your mom sounds nice, too." He spun around in his chair again, nodding his head in agreement. "Do you want to do anything else today? Or would you just rather stay in the dorm?" I'm fine with either way."
Nils smirked back at Mikkjel. "Me too. I guess that's why we get along, right?" he said with a chuckle. He nodded in agreement. "Seems like it. And thank you. I'm sure she would be happy that you think that." He paused for a moment, thinking. "Honestly, I think I would rather just hang out here for the rest of the day. Do you have anything in mind that we could do, though? We could just chat or watch a movie or anything else that you want. I'm fine with whatever, too."
Mikkjel nodded his head in agreement. "I suppose so" he said with shrug. He gave a slight grin. "I would hope she would. And same with my mom." Mikkjel tapped his fingers on his desk, thinking about what to do. "I'm cool with just chatting if you want. Get to know each other better. I mean, we're friends, right? At least I hope we are." He smiled again after his last statement.
Nils grinned back. "Me too" he said. He stood up from his bed, deciding to sit at his desk instead. "Sounds good to me. And yeah, I would consider you a friend. So don't worry about that." He meant it. Although they didn't know each other that well, he liked Mikkjel and appreciated his friendship. He didn't know many people that thought of as a friend. But his roommate was an exception. He silent for a moment before he spoke. "So, what do you want to talk about?"
