Mockingjay discussion

Guys I'm here for some peace of mind, as I know a lot of people LOVE Mockingjay, and I'm not slating the series as a whole but I really just didn't like the way the last book played out, and I think it's mostly down to the fact Peeta was captured...

Like we get this slow burner of a love story between the two, and when we are finally ready to watch these two characters face the capital, it's like they have to start all over again?!?! And then the last two pages is like oh yeah and they get back together and that. It just feels really lazy and not plausible given the circumstances, they went the whole book being really icy with each other.

I feel like there could have been other conflicts for the characters that could have risen, like does Peeta choose to fully cooperate with coin behind Katniss' back or does he consider her feelings, and that can follow on from her lying to him in the first games to get him the medicine, he may genuinely think he's doing the right thing.

I did like the dynamic where Katniss is a bit miffed that Peeta sees her for who she is, and she realises that she took advantage of his kindness, but also he was so mean with it and so weird around her that it didn't feel right.

I feel like that could have still played out, and Peeta is like 'you can never do as you're told' and she's like 'you're meant to be on my side' sort of thing if they rescued him, but to have them be so distant throughout the whole book just made me feel no emotion throughout. Most of my tabs were just of Finnick being funny, until he DIED on me.

I just hate the whole Peeta hijacked plot, there was that scene where he was weird with Annie too and it really is off putting.

So I'm asking for anyone's thoughts on this? Anyone have ideas for alternative endings? Can anyone direct me towards a fic where he is rescued and none of it plays out like this for some peace of mind ;-;
