Q3 July - Sept enjoy a collection of British spy mystery stories by Michael Gilbert in Game Without Rules!

From GR: Discover the new Penguin Crime and Espionage seriesFor two secret agents, there's no such thing as a quiet life in the countryside...In a peaceful Kent village, Mr Behrens lives with his aunt at the Old Rectory, where he plays chess and keeps bees. His friend Mr Calder lives nearby with Rasselas, a golden deerhound of unnatural intelligence. No one would suspect that they are in fact working for British Intelligence, carrying out the jobs that are too dangerous for anyone else to handle - whether it's wiping out traitors, Soviet spies or old Nazis - in these gloriously entertaining stories.

Kathy E | 2345 comments I'll be reading this one. Looking forward to it.

Game Without Rules (Herald Classics) by Michael Gilbert
my copy. Im not sure when I will get to this but definitely have plans!!

Kathy E | 2345 comments I enjoyed these stories about British Intelligence agents Calder and Behrens. They are two older men who live in small Lamperdown but are ready to jump into action when called upon. I liked how each story had a different angle to the kind of case they worked on. There's plenty of action, including shooting criminals. The title really tells what kind of stories these are: "Game Without Rules." Definitely. Also, there is another "detective," Calder's wolfhound, Rasselas.

Sounds like these could be fun reads when you're limited on time.

Annette | 234 comments Mysteries are my favorite genre. I've added this to my 2025 list but I'll be late to the party.

I couldn't find a copy of this, but the library keeps adding new ebooks all the time.

Rosemarie, if you want to read it, I recommend requested a copy of ebook or physical. Maybe your library could get one from another system for you through interlibrary loan, if not an ebook.
