NetGalley Buddy Readers discussion

Is anyone doing Camp NetGalley this year—and if so, what book(s) are you reading?

I grabbed Amigurumi Critters: 25 Imaginative Crochet Designs for All Skill Levels. I was also looking at Fox Creek: A Novel or maybe Amity. Not sure I'll be able to get to them with my current schedule though.

I picked up Breathe In, Bleed Out, and I might grab Canticle if I'm not too busy this month. Maybe a good thing that a lot of the books on offer aren't really my cuppa!

Elyse - I considered getting the kids book too. Lol That’s why I went with the amigurumi book.

FYI, the Spooky Stories one that I got - it's a 'read on Netgalley' either in the app or on your computer ! So if you don't like that format, you might avoid that one!

So is the amigurumi one and for some reason I still can get it to work on the computer, just in the app.

I took the amigurumi book because I'm a crafter and I was able to get through it pretty quick (and add about 6 projects to my list).

What did you use to read the amigurumi book? I can't get it to open in NetGalley Reader. I asked for help through NG support, but nothing they suggested worked. It might be an issue with my laptop, I'm not sure. Either way, it won't open and I had to read it in my NetGalley Shelf App, which I only have on my phone, so it's really small. I'd prefer to view it larger.

I'm reading Breathe In, Bleed Out - So far so good.

It must be something with your laptop because I had no issues reading it on the Reader. That's where I normally read crafting or cook books.

Thanks. I'm going to have to see if I can figure it out. It looks good, but will be much easier to read on the laptop.

I tried to read my book in the reader and it was completely blank pages! So I had to flip to the app on the phone, and that worked. . .

Mine just says it's loading, but never loads. It still says the name of the book at the top of the page, but that's it. NG support said to try either refreshing the page or clicking the back button in the reader and clicking on the book again to reopen it, but neither of those work. I will have to check my settings and see if I can figure it out. Otherwise, I'll just read it in my shelf app.

OH! Are you guys on dark mode? Some times you have to flip to light mode or sepia mode to see stuff, it's weird.

No, it's on mu computer and all the other books work. Just not this one book for me.

I haven't sent any other books to the reader, so I have no idea if it's the book or a computer setting. I just get a popup that says it's loading with a spinning wheel, but it never loads so the popup never goes away. If I close the popup and try to navigate back to the main page and reopen the book, which is what NG support suggested, it doesn't do anything when I click on the arrow so I can't even get to the main page. Thank you for offering suggestions, Jessie.

Kristie, it might be worth trying to load a different book on the reader and seeing if that one works.

I had the same idea, Liralen. I tried to open the book I'm currently reading and got the same result. It has to be something on my laptop not allowing it.

Maybe try clearing your cache and cookies?

I grabbed Fox Creek: A Novel and Steady Now. Listening to the Spotify playlist for Steady Now for the added reading experience.

I picked up Canticle after all—probably won't have time to finish it this month, but it doesn't publish until December, and the early reviews are promising.

I like that, Christine. I find it harder to read with background noise because I'm too easily distracted, but I love the idea of listening to a book's playlist while reading.

I am doing Camp NetGalley. I grabbed a book for kids (I am a teacher). It is called Ask Scarlett. It is great. I will buy it for my classroom.

I requested that one first. But, can't seem to download it. I really only like reading on Kindle. So, I need to return it.

It was cute - the stories were a bit short and definitely for a younger group but the art work and images in the story were really fun! I loved that you could treat it like an advent story calendar for the lead up to Halloween!

It looked super cute. I don't have the app or whatever is needed to read on the computer. I forget to look to see what devices you can download to. If I had checked at first I would have seen it was not availbale on kindle.

To read on the computer you just need to be on the NetGalley site. The third option at the top, just to the right of Your Shelf is the NetGalley Reader and you can just open it up in your browser and read that way.

Just in case you want to try that in the future.
