I'm so excited for this summer readathon with all of you! I see some familiar faces that I've been on teams with before.. 😊 As a fair warning for all of you, I started a new job last month and I no longer have phone service/internet access during the work week from ~7am-5pm central time. I'm hoping to get some books picked out for the prompts this weekend and uploaded into our spreadsheet. I'll also use this comment for tracking so my stuff is easier to find for everyone.

Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to this Readathon. I am definitely planning on reading Animal Farm (AF, published in 1940s), Pollyanna (P, 1910s), Dying to Get Published (DTGP, 1990s/decade I was born). I may read one or two more too (will see what prompts we have left to fill when I get there). This is going to be my tracking post but I will update the spreadsheet too.

My name is Mary and I have signed up for ~ 7 books. I've been holding on to some on my TBR for this readathon as I thought they might work somewhere based on the theme.

Would dystopian count as a book set in a future decade? Even if no date is mentioned? I have a dystopian book on my TBR which google AI describes as being set in the near future, but I don't think a specific time is mentioned.

Hello Team 4 ~ Welcome to Through The Decades Readathon!!I am Lisa Marie & I will be one of the team leaders for this readathon. I look forward to doing this readathon with you all and getting to know each of you!! I also can't wait to see what books everyone will pick to read for the prompts :)
This is my 3rd Readathon I have participated in and I always enjoy being a part of them!! I find them to be FUN!! And, if I can give any advice for being a part of this Readathon it is this.....ENJOY & HAVE FUN!!
Since the Readathon officially starts on July 18th we have until then to pick our books that we want to read and which prompts those books will fit. If we could all make a comment in this thread as to what books you would like to read and what prompts they fill that would be awesome. As we all do this we will know which prompts we have to fill. But, don't stress about this at all....I will keep a very close eye on this and will comment what we still need to fill :)
Hopefully, I haven't scared anyone away or confused anyone!! If you have any questions please message in this thread or you can message me through GoodReads. If I don't know the answer I will find out the answer for you!!
Okay...I think that is it for today!! I will be checking in daily at least once.
Does anyone else have any ideas for a team name? Rachael has nominated "TOME TRAVELERS" and I like it. However, I would like to see if anyone else has any ideas they would like us to vote on. If there are not any other nominations by early next week we will go with "TOME TRAVELERS" if that works for everyone!!

Hi everyone! I’m super excited for the readathon. The group ones are always so much fun!
I’ll be taking a look through my tbr and what I can find in my library to start planning what prompts I can fit tomorrow :) I can think of a few already. I’m looking forwards to seeing what you all come up with too.

Hi, have another question- for translated fiction do we consider the published date as the year it was first published in its original language, or the year the (in my case) English version was published?
Good question Mansi! My gut would be the year it was first published, but I could see either working.I've asked your question in the moderators' thread :)

I've added a few books to the spreadsheet and my tracking post. I'll plan to prioritize the books that fit multiple prompts and then trickle down to the singular prompt books. I'm so excited!!
Mansi - Theresa responded and said "I'll say the version that is being read, for this event." so that'd be the English version in your case.I've added my first four books to the spreadsheet. I hope to read more. I've picked short-ish books and usually find these team readathons motivate me to read more than I expect! I've got lots of other possibles on my tbr that I can pick up to fill in whatever prompts we need most once we're on our way :)

Ok thank you Janine!I really haven't been reading much this year, although I've started to this past week, and I'm hoping this readathon gets me back into a reading rhythm, and tick some books off my shelf!

Hi all! Looking forward to the readathon. I will check to see what prompts are covered and look into getting some books to read for the coming weekend.
Had a little library hunt for books published in 1900s as we didn't yet have any in that category and I picked up The Hound of the Baskervilles which was published 1902 :) Can't believe I've never read any Sherlock Holmes stories before so figured this was a good opportunity!

Hello Team 4 :)Sorry I went MIA since my last message!! Had a bit of a family issue that I had to deal with out of town. I just am getting back in town and I need to pick my books for the Readathon!! Just checking in to say I am working on my books to read for the Readathon :) With being gone for those days I am behind more than I would like....I do apologize and I am so thankful that you all are on top of your books you want to read for the Readathon....GREAT JOB LADIES!!! I am so very thankful!! I will have my TBR on the PLANNING tab by tomorrow!!
We are getting closer to the 18th and the start of the Readathon...I am SO excited and ready to get reading!!

Woohoo! We’re almost to the start of our reading! I’ve been getting my books “prepped” for Friday—borrowing on Libby, listening to as much of the longer audiobooks as I can, and calculating how many pages each of my audiobooks will count for. I’ll take a look at the spreadsheet sometime and choose some extra books to add to my tbr in case I finish all the ones I haven’t planned before the end of the readathon. Hello TOME TRAVELLERS!!!We are getting 'closer to GO DAY for the Readathon!! I will get the rest of my books added to the PLANNING spreadsheet tomorrow...my computer had an issue so I wasn't able to get them added yesterday. My computer is now fixed and I will get them added.
You all have done such a great job of filling in the PLANNING spreadsheet and I will be going over the spreadsheet to make sure we have enough coverage.....it is actually looking really good!!

It's almost time! I'm not sure which timezones everyone is in, but here (UK) it's less than 3 hours till go time! I have started one of my audiobooks to get a jump start and will make a note of how far I get before the readathon starts so I can give the accurate page count.

Hello everyone! Good start to day 1 of the readathon for me (I'm in the UK)... I've read all of Animal Farm which was published in the 1940s (my copy had 120 pages). I don't have work until Monday now which means plenty of time for reading!
Way to go Rachael! Thanks for filling in the tracking and completed sections on the spreadsheet too.I also had a good start and finished a book. Also a nice short one (186 pages). Unfortunately it wasn't amazing and I won't be reading on in that series, but it was easy and light to read, and fulfilled one of the day/month in title prompt.
Go Team Tome Travellers!!I’m working on finishing Skeleron Crew today (about 30 mins left now). Hopefully I’ll be able to finish Babel-17 tomorrow since I only have ~50% left. We’re off to a great start!!

Well done to everyone who's made progress already! And if you haven't had the best start, no worries, it's a long readathon and we've barely started so you've got plenty of time.To give us a better idea of what we're missing, I've gone through the planning tab and highlighted in green the prompts that I think fit each book best for what we need. For books with multiple options I have prioritised where we have less other possible fits or prompts I think may be harder to fill. These are only suggestions and are swappable, it just gives us a starting point. I'm sure I may have made mistakes as well so of course feel free to correct me.
Here is what we're missing if anyone finishes their current plans and wants to know what else to pick up. If there's 'OR's after it, that's because we have other books that I've currently assigned to other prompts but could be moved. You'll see we have lots of flexibility :)

Bailey - for Skeleton Crew, how many pages did you read during the readathon? 102.4 was mistakenly put in the prompt points column, so I've moved it to the pages column and fixed the formula but please edit if that was wrong.
Thanks for the list, Janine! It has made me realise that I 'forgot' what decade I was born and one of my planned reads fits that prompt so another possible option for us 🙈
Whoops! Thank you for moving that Janine! I did only listen to that weirdly specific number of “pages” for the readathon so yes that was meant to go in the page point column. And thank you for going through our spreadsheet and highlighting things! Looking forward to browsing through it and seeing where I could be helpful if I finish everything on my tbr 😁
Thanks, Janine! This is incredibly helpful. I might not get The Lion Women of Tehran from my library in time so I'm picking up another book today that will fit the 1950's prompt. I have another book that I can add for 1950's too The Chelsea GirlsFor those looking for a book that fits the unit of time prompt, the general help thread said this "Words like: day, night, morning, week, are good to use, for the unit of time prompt" as well as hours, minutes, seconds. That might open up some more possibilities.

You're all very welcome :) We have as a team completed our first double prompt, books published/set in the 1920s, thanks to Mary and Bailey, and have made progress across 8 other double/triple prompts!Rachael - happens to the best of us! We've got two possibles for the decade you were born prompt which are both 90s as well, and my backup for that one would also be 90s. Quite a few 90s babies!
Mary - thanks for sharing that. Gives some more options for that prompt.
I finished The Hound of the Baskervilles this morning and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. For a book published 123 years ago it's so captivating and easy to read.
Two more books completed since I last checked the spreadsheet. Amazing!Kate, I see you've added three more books that fit the 2010s prompt. You now have five books that only fit 2010s so just thought I'd mention that if you do read all of those, we'll only get prompt points for three of them. You may be reading them for other reasons (like other challenges, or library deadlines etc.) so that's fine, we'll still get page points for them as a non-prompt book at least. But if you're picking and choosing which books to prioritise, you can take that into account :)
We’re doing fantastic so far, Team!! I finished Slaughterhouse-Five earlier this morning and now I’m moving onto The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I’ve some errands to run this afternoon so I may not finish it today but hopefully early in the week I will. We got this!
Hi Tome Travellers, I am sorry that I have again been MIA :( I had a health issue that laid me up for the next several weeks. But, I still have gotten some reading in. I finished My Good Man that will fill the prompt for set in 70's, 80's, or 90's...I will check where it will help the most. I am almost done with Vinegar Hill and I am starting The Women's March: The 1913 Women's Suffrage Procession. I also have several more books I can read for prompts we need covered.
