Some famous authors were also (or had been) journalists - e.g. Steinbeck, Hemmingway, Twain, Dostoevsky, Mailer (who was an even better journalist than an author).

What about SF authors - are there any renowned journalists among them?

Not renowned, but Steve Miller (Liaden Universe coauthor) was a journalist for a while. My vague memory has him covering music news among other things.

Of course a heckuva lot of authors have a lengthy laundry list of jobs they did to make ends meet, while writing in their spare time.

Agreed - and its probably not surprising that many of them at some point in their careers worked in the IT/software industries.

John Scalzi worked as a journalist during college and for a short while afterward. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Sc...

Trike | 777 comments “Renowned” is a high bar, but HG Wells, Frank Herbert, and Cory Doctorow did the journalist thing.

Authors like Charlie Jane Anders, Annalee Newitz and Bruce Sterling are considered journalists but not in the “writing for a newspaper” type of way.
