Hello Lilly, Daisy, and Julianna! This will be the thread we will all use to chat about the discussion for the book. Like I said I am going to ask that if any of us are going to be inactive and are not going to be able to read then we need some sort of communication that we can continue on in the book so we aren't reading ahead.

I have my copy ready to go but how many chapters are we wanting to read a day?

Sorry ladies I am just trying to keep communication and speed in the thread. I can start today if we need. I will also promise to post if an emergency happens or if I am not able to read for a while.

So looking at my physically copy that chapters can be anywhere from 4 to 7 pages long...... I also will say that I am in a Moderator read, and reading a BOTM, so I am reading other books too.

I can start today if you guys are ready? We can read at a slower pace for now since you’re reading other books V, and I am also reading another book currently as well.

Ladies I will say I just read the back of the book blurb and I legit have chills all over my arms.... I have a feeling this one is going to have some twists that we are not going to expect.

Chapter 1-

Brooke walks into the prison and this is the last place that she wants to work but this is also the only place that has called her back. She is going to be a nurse practitioner for the prison and she will be seeing patients on a day to day basis and will prescribe the right medication they need but she is not allowed TO DISPOSE of the medication with going through Dorothy who is a nurse for the hospital. As she is walking down the hall and going through security she is regretting seeing the faces of the people who work here because no one looks friendly and smiles...... but there are rules that come with this job......

The officer who had got her through security had wished her luck because the last lady who got fired is now being incardinated because she didn't follow the rules. She is not scared to take this job but she does know 1 inmate in the prison and she never wants to see Shane again because she is the reason why he is in here...... So today is the first day of Brooke being the nurse practitioner of the prison and will be in charge of seeing inmates and giving them the right medication they need to get better. There are rules that come with having the job and she does happen to know one of the inmates who is in prison for murder and has no chance of parole.

She doesn't want to see him again and his name is Shane. The nurse is giving her a tour and she will be perfectly fine as long as she follows the rules and its nothing to be scared over....

The rules are:

1. Treat all prisoners with respect.
2. No revealing any personal information with the inmates.
3. Never get friendly with any of the inmates.

Now as she is getting a tour, the nurse was very serious of these rules and the last person who had this job is now being incarcerated because she didn't follow the rules.

I wouldn't want to see Shane either if she is the reason he's in here. The nurse also did warn her that there are people in here that deserve what they did and she is not allowed to feel sorry for them. These men will look at her like she is candy but she can't fall for them... will she be able to do it.

Chapter 2-

Brooke has pulled up to her parents house and she has officially got the job at the prison and she has her ID badge to get into certain rooms but she has to keep in mind that she cant lay her badge down anywhere because if anyone gets ahold of drugs, medication, or anything that falls back on her.

Brooke had grown up the a little town called Raker and her childhood was in this small town and her parents house had tons of her childhood memories as well. She figured this move would be the best for her son since they had to move schools because her son Josh was getting bullied at his old school and came home with a black eye. Both of Brooke's parents have passed away and she was going to sell the house because she didn't want it but she figured it would save her money in the long run.

She came home to the baby sitter cooking dinner. Her son is still on summer break but will be doing sports and practice once school resumes. So her son is 10 years old and the baby sitter was telling Brooke that her son is scared to start school again because he is scared he is going to end up being bullied again. Brooke needs to get her son some help so he doesn't struggle and have a terrible school year. Her son knows his dad lives in the small town and wants to see his father but Brooke said his dad doesn't live there.... (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

Okay I am going to confess something right now..... For the sake of her son Josh.... I really hope that her sons dad is NOT that Shane Nelson guy..... I can see that being her sons father and keep in mind he is sitting in the prison for murder and I completely understand why Brooke doesn't want his son around him.

Who would let their kid around someone who has a record for murdering people?

Also I don't know if I could work at a prison like that.... Those inmates are handcuffed everywhere they go but still if they break those handcuffs and I mean she is going to be dealing with men who have some narly stuff on their record and she also has to protect herself and her son...... If something happens to her, her son has no one else that can help him. Her parents are gone already from a car wreck.

Chapter 3-

Brooke is in the process of seeing her first patient and it's an old man who is in his 60's and needs major dental work to his teeth. His teeth are yellow and of course when he smiles at Brooke it's creepy.

Mr. Henderson thinks Brooke is the doctor but she is the new nurse practitioner and she has told her patient that many times but he doesn't seem to think of her as a nurse and calls her a Doctor. She had to write him a new prescription for his inhaler because this patient has emphysema and it's gotten worse over the last few months. She has to keep in mind that she has no idea why these men are here but her job is to get them the help they need and that's it.

So Mr. Henderson is going to need a x ray done on his chest but the nurse tech is gone today so she will reschedule a time to get him in to get this done... Again she is not allowed to give personal information out and of course her patient asked her if she was married.

Elise was the name of the last person who was in charge of the patients charts but there is always an officer that brings the patients into the exam room. They are handcuffed and some of them will have their ankle shackled just for her protection. But she has alot of free time on days when she is less busy but she does have access to the medical records room which has a file of everyone who is in the prison.

She finds Shane's file and she knows that's him because she was a minor when he had his trial but he also tried to kill her as well.... but he is one of her patients... (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

So Brooke has new been working here for less than a day and she has to keep in mind that these inmates are her patients ONLY. She is not aware of why they are in here but she is to give them the help they need and send them off.

The perk is that there is an officer who lays out the files for her that she has that day, and the officers are in charge of bringing the patients into the waiting area. Today she has a 60 year told man who needed a new inhaler but of course he asked her if she was married and was hitting on her which alot of these men will do just to charm her......

Girl what the fuck are you doing looking at Shane's file....... That would be the last thing I look at especially since he tried to kill her.....

Chapter 4- 11 years earlier

When Brooke lived at home, her parents didn't approve of her dating Shane. He was a piece of trash to Brooke's parents and they don't want her hanging out with him because he likes to get in trouble alot. Brooke and Shane have been dating for 3 months and they sneak around all the time just to see each other and she knows that if her parents knew she was spending the night over at his house because his mom his out of town, she would hard core be grounded.

When Brooke lived at home she never broke the rules and did her best in school. But it wasn't until she met Shane that she started sneaking out and doing things behind her mom and dads back. Shane is the quarterback of the high school football team and her best friend Chelsea and Brooke are also cheerleaders. Chelsea had her boyfriend named Brandon and that is Shane's best friend.

Shane knows that it would be better if they just had alone time and it was just her spending the night. But she told her parents that she would be home by 5pm and if she is late, they are going to question why but since it's summer her parents have been more off the hook. Tim is standing in the yard, and he hears Shane yelling that Brooke is suppose to be hanging out with them tonight and Tim HATES Shane soooo much because he thinks Tim is a bully. I have a feeling either Chelsea or Tim is going to rat Brooke's ass out and her parents are going to find out. I think Tim just wants the best for her and he doesn't want her being with someone who acts like a piece of trash and Tim knows Brooke better than anyone.

Tim is also the one that got her the snowflake necklace that she wears all the time..... So Tim has feelings for Brooke....... I have a feeling he does because why would she wear a piece of jewelry from a different guy if she is in a relationship with Shane??

I also think Shane has something to do with that Tracy chick that was murdered in the neighborhood. I don't trust Shane at all and I think the only reason why he wants to be alone with her is he has a plan to kill her. Obviously she gets pregnant because she has a son but we don't know who the father is and I really damn hope that the father is NOT Shane.......

I also think Tim and Shane are end up in a fight tonight.... I don't have a good feeling about this at all. Tim seems creepy a little bit but I think its just because he is looking out and being a friend for Brooke?! I don't know that's just my prediction.

Chapter one:
Brooke is definitely going to be an interesting character I’m already intrigued by this book from the start. Crazy that they are judging her footwear when they provided her with ZERO guidelines on what is appropriate to wear like what? And I am super interested to know more about the guy she put in prison FOR LIFE! Like what exactly did he do to her..

Chapter two:
Kids are absolutely awful… bullying someone because they have no father is horrible no matter what the circumstances are. I feel so bad for Josh. When he asked to meet his father.. oh boy I wonder if he’ll find out who it really is. Yeah Brooke definitely should have told Josh a better story because Josh knows she’s lying when she said he moved out of town.

Chapter three:
Wow those inmates are definitely lucky that Brooke applied for this job, no medical care besides the doctor who stops by rarely! Oh my god… he tried to KILL her! Of course when Brooke looks for Shane’s name in the files room it is clear he still is an inmate here. She is caught looking around in the room and has to lie her way out of it. That guard will definitely be keeping a closer eye on her now. Yeah I agree, I have no clue why she’d want to be digging around on her first day on this job!!

I’m liking it a lot so far! Definitely going to read more tomorrow

I swear Brooke should not be spending the night with him because I don’t trust Shane but if your best friend rats you out to your own parents what kind of friend is that? I’m sorry but that is bull shit and I would be like yeah no we are done having a friendship. Just because Chelsea is jealous she isn’t invited to things does not give her the right to act that way…..

I don’t know who the father is but it’s nerve racking me and if it is Shane I am going to lose my shit. No joke! (Excuse the language) I mean if Shane tries to kill Brooke then I have no doubts that he was involved with the Tracy girl.

Sorry just because Brooks boyfriend is a star quarterback for the football team does not mean shit. If he has a criminal record FOR MURDER why the heck would you hang out with him period, let alone by yourself. And why would Brooke want to be with someone who bullies other people?

Tim is trying to protect her but she doesn’t see it that way and Brooke is not the brightest I will say that.

i definitely think shane is josh's father because she must have told josh his father lived where they moved too (i forget the name) which is where shane is and if they are going to spend the night together who knows what will happen! and yeah...i think chelsea sucks for that

Chapter four:
Wow so eleven years earlier Brooke is dating Shane. Her best friend Chelsea… I do not really like her, she’s not the greatest friend. What kind of best friend would rat out to your parents what you’re doing if they didn’t invite her to party with them? On Brooke’s way home she runs into Tim who does NOT like shane, and tries to tell Brooke that Shane and his friends are a bunch of bullies. I feel like Tim definitely likes Brooke and that’s why he doesn’t really like Shane.

Chapter five:
Brookes dropping josh off on his first day of school when she runs into Tim for the first time since they were young. Brooke seems to want to hide that josh is ten… interesting.. hopefully we will see why soon. I feel like it won’t be too long until Brooke runs into Tim again since it’s such a small town.

Yeah I agree… Tim or Chelsea is probably going to tell Brookes parents what shes up to. And fr why would Brooke wear a necklace from Tim when she’s with Shane now!

Julianna that’s what my mind was thinking like how are you dating Shane but wearing a necklace THAT SHE LOVES but it’s from Tim? I think Tim has feelings for Brooke but she is trying to cover up for Shane by telling him he’s a good guy and all when he’s not and he hangs out with trashy people and acts like a piece of shit.

Julianna that’s what Lilly and I were saying…. Chelsea is jealous of Brooke and if she doesn’t get attention or invited to things then she tells Brooks parents who she is hanging with and tried to get her in trouble. But I agree, if that’s your best friend then maybe she needs to reconsider that because that’s messed up.

Chapter 5-

Brooke had just dropped her son off at school and her son looks very nervous to be left alone with these kids he doesn’t know. He is scared they will bully him but his teacher seems to be very kind and knows how to manage her classroom well. Brooke feels like maybe the school knows that her son doesn’t really have a father like figure but it wouldn’t take much for the school to find out. The bell has rang for school so start and she is worried to leave her son but she knows that he is going to need to figure things out and she can’t be there with him every step. Brooke had also attended this school when she was her sons age but children have changed and every class is the same.

But of course as she is making sure her son is okay, she hears her name and Tim Reese who was her best friend is now the assistant principal of the school. He has changed and is really attractive but he doesn’t know that her son is 10 years old. What is creepy was Tom was there the night when she had gotten pregnant. But now he wants to get together and catch up but he can’t tell her that he is a nurse of a prison? (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

Tim is the assistant principal of Josh’s school but what’s even more awkward is the night she found out she was pregnant, Tim was there because he has scars to prove it??? WHAT? Tim doesn’t know how old her son is yet, but he will eventually find out and now he wants to reconnect with her but he has gotten to be better looking.

His parents moved to Florida and he stays at his parents house and Brooke wanted to keep her parents house because the house market was terrible so again grown up and they live close to each again….. I don’t know if Tim is going to see her different once she does find out that Josh’s father is probably Shane.

Chapter 6-

Brooke is pissed off and has been non stop busy. Mr. Carpenter is in his late 20’s and has been shot in the spine but whatever he did had to be serious enough because he is a patient at the prison. Brooke took an x ray and this patient has a huge wound on his tailbone and is going to need some medication as well as a new mattress that reliefs some pressure or it’s never going to get better. It’s the prisons job to make sure these patients get what they need but they aren’t doing that and Dorothy is now warned about it but thinks this is not a necessary purchase for this inmate.

Brooke is going to find a way to make him better and see what she can do but an Officer is on the way to the medical room because there was an injury outside and this is her first patient that has been shackled by ankle and wrist. I agree with Brooke. It is the prisons job to make sure these patients get inmates get what they need and this is a medical repair and is not going to get better if he doesn’t get what he needs. Shot in the spine……… ouch. 🤕

But of course another inmate is coming her way and this is her first patient that has been shackled by ankles and wrist…… Shane……. Oh fuck….. this is not going to end well and this bandage is soaked in blood…….

Wonder what he is going to think of her working there? This is not going to end well and now I am going to be up all night trying to think ladies….. okay I am logging off or else I am going to keep reading and be up all night.

I already know he is going to try to do something to her but seeing someone after they tried to kill you……

Chapter six:
Wow the prisons care system truly sucks. I feel bad for him being in unbelievable pain while Brooke isn’t even to prescribe a better mattress for his pain. What’s the point of having a nurse in the prison is she can’t even have resources to hrlp her patients? As soon as Brooke was alerted a prisoner was injured I had a feeling it would be Shane! This could definitely go badly.. if the guard outside realizes that Brooke and Shane know each other she’ll probably lose her job.

Chapter seven:
So Brooke meets up with Chelsea to go to the party and Chelsea has brought along Kayla who likes Tim. Yeah it’s definitely odd that Tim did not bring an overnight bag since Brooke told him they were staying over… maybe shes right and he’s planning on leaving early but why?

@V yes exactly I have no idea how Shane is going to react to finding out that Brooke is the new nurse at the prison… but I’m guessing it will go badly since she is the one who put him there!! I also need to put it down for the day or I’ll be up reading all night too 😂😂

I am probably going to read a lot today because I need answers lol. Yeah this is not going to end well and she might lose her job but I hope not.

Chapter 7-

Chelsea had pulled up to Brooke's house and she is leaning on the car horn and won't stop till Brooke comes out and gets in the car. It's dark outside and she is going to end up waking someone up. Her face is caked in make up and Kayla is in the backseat and apparently has a crush on Tim because Chelsea told them they were staying overnight at Shane's house and they are allowed to come over once his mom is on the road. Kayla is also a cheerleader and is addicted to her phone and plays like Brooke is not in the car... so snobbish. Tim lives a block over and Chelsea is picking them up and was going to sound her horn but Brooke said that was stupid and it's all fun and games till she wakes someone up and the neighborhood gets pissed off. Tim is already waiting on the steps but has no overnight bag which is awkward and I wonder if he plans on leaving early because he knows that he won't be able to handle it if everyone gets drunk. Chelsea is sooooo stupid...... Why would you sit there and honk your horn and try and wake people up? Obviously it has to be a time where everyone is asleep because I would wake up if I heard someone's car honking in my drive way..... you better best bet explain yourself because that's annoying.... What if Brooke's parents are sleeping and caught her sneaking out because of her? And Tim I can see leaving early because he already doesn't like Shane and if there is drinking then I doubt he wants to deal with everyone's stupidity.

I don't know if I am going to like Kayla either.... The fact that she couldn't even say hi to Brooke when she got in the car and made her phone more important seems fishy to me.......

Chapter 8-

Brooke had saw the patient walking down the hallway with his ankles and wrists shackled and she didn't think she would be seeing Shane so soon. That night when she spent the night, that was the same night she found out that she was pregnant and she knew she was going to be in an ass load of trouble since she was still living at her parents house. They are both trying to make it look like they don't know each other because she can lose her job and Dorothy had told Brooke that the prison was out of lidocaine which was going to help numb the area so Brooke could stitch up his wound.

She knows she has to keep this professional but when she finds out that some of the inmates are already spreading news around that she is not married and that she has a kid..... she knows that she already messed up by giving out too much information. Brooke is the reason why Shane is sitting in prison but he claims that he never did anything to her which is obviously a lie...... She doesn't want to stitch him up but she has no choice and is wanting to get him out of there so she doesn't have to see him. Shane said he ran into a fence and that's how this whole thing happened but Brooke doesn't quite believe his story. (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

WHAT? Brooke sees that the patient is Shane and the whole time he is in the exam room they are both playing like they don't know each other but while she is stitching his wound, he is asking her a bunch of personal questions and she was told not to give personal information out- but she already done and fucked up because the inmates are spreading news around and she can lose her job if people hear them talking about her personal life.

Shane is in prison because Brooke testified him as guilty and told the judge the truth. Shane had tried to kill Brooke with the necklace on her neck and choked her till she couldn't breathe. Shane said he ran into a fence in the yard but they have no lidocaine for numbness and she is suppose to stitch him up without no medication.

Shane has scars all over his face and while she is stitching him up she is telling him that inmates are talking about how she is single and asking her how old her son is...... I puked when I found out that Shane was the father and I would be scared to tell him the truth as well since he is the one that got her pregnant that night.

Brooke's parents passed away in a car accident but they pretty much lost touch with her when they found out she was pregnant and that she was sneaking out to hang out with Shane who was her boyfriend at the time. Her parents dont like Shane at all.
