This is the place for discussion of Shark Week 2025 and the first half of one of our two books for this year--Megalodon: Bloodbath. Spoilers within the first half of this novel are welcome here with no need for spoiler tags. (Just no spoilers from the second half please).

If you're the first to comment, please summarize the initial chapters.

I'll join for this book, but can't promise about the second. Let's hope this really will be a bloodbath! 😈

I‘ll start with this on a as well then…

Chapter 1: We‘re on a fishing boat, trying to hook swordfish. The captain and a couple looking for a nice catch. They hook something bigger than a swordfish…

Chapter 2: We meet the main character, chief of police Nico Medrano. Very strong „Jaws“ vibe. Another sports fishing boat…

Chapter 3: A whale beaching itself, fleeing from something…

Further chapters setting up the scene:

Nico‘s ex shows up. She‘s a marine biologist and has a big boat. 😏

And we have a criminal element: Guys robbing a bank in Florida and messing up big time. They grab a boat and flee to our island.

(39 chapters in total)

I gotta say that I'm a bit disappointed that the author opted for the really overused trope of a couple having split because their child died. *sighs* Why do these books always only either have that or sexist pigs as MCs?

Well, I guess all of these rather shallow creature features work to the same formula.

Trish | 80 comments Mod
Maybe. Some more spice in the formula wouldn't hurt.

Half way in I'm thinking not awful. Yeah, Jaws vibe as well as Meg. As much as we rag on Alten, the discovery-of-prehistoric-shark-species story owes so much to him.

Trish | 80 comments Mod
Indeed it does!

I agree! Love the movie with Statham, too… Although Jaws is probably my favourite shark movie of all time.

Well, I will be the first to admit that while reading this book, right during the first chapter, I said "they're gonna need a bigger boat". *looool*
