Chapter 25, plenty of action and a high body count… Are all the criminals dead already or did I miss one?

Wow, you're fast! High body count sounds perfect though. ;P

*sighs* The criminals are finally over and done with. IMO, we spent way too much time with these assholes and not nearly enough with the megalodon. :/

Yes, the criminals were a bit of a pointless addition to the plot.

The whole island thing, closing the beach, etc., reminded me very strongly of Jaws. With a dash of Meg thrown in, with a meteorite instead of a disturbed thermocline.

High body count. It was entertaining enough and the writing was decent, but it didn’t add anything to the genre. Meh, barely worth it.

I actually liked the action scenes. But I could have done without the criminals - though they were necessary for how Nico and his (ex-)wife killed the meg, I guess.

So yeah, I liked it. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I agree about the influences and I didn't mind one bit.

I finished reading it today. As for the criminal element, heh heh, I felt like the author almost had to do it in order to heighten the stakes and action beyond the jaws & meg predecessors. As if an 80-foot meg wasn't already enough.

But the crooks did help complicate the plot a bit and it was satisfying to see one or two of them become shark food.
