Kieren Smock | 1 comments My name is Kieren Smock and I offer beta reading, manuscript evaluation, and developmental editing services. I primarily work in the genres of folk fantasy, contemporary literary fiction, and romance genre fiction (including subgenres such as dark romance and romantasy). I also provide sensitivity readings for projects that feature disability and queerness (including gender queerness).

I am most excited to work with indie and self-published authors. As an indie author myself, I have experience on both sides of the editing relationship and work to bring that consideration into my feedback.

I have a BA in English Literature and experience as an editing intern at an independent publishing house. I have not only participated in writing workshops since high school, but have also presented twice at the National Undergraduate Literature Conference. I am a member of the EFA and regularly improve my craft through courses, trainings, and outside readings.

I am working to establish myself professionally in the freelancing sphere and am offering my services in exchange for testimonials at this time.

Reach out to me here, on my website, or by email for more information or to engage my services.

Laksshya Guptaa | 21 comments Hi Kieren,

I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to reach out and see if you’d be interested in being a beta reader for my novel, Something Between Us. It’s a dark, emotional, and character-driven romance that explores trauma, healing, vulnerability, and the complex journey of love.

The story follows Ashley, a resilient marketing executive with a violent past, and Landon, a guarded billionaire with deep emotional scars. When their worlds collide after a failed blind date, what begins as tension slowly turns into something raw and deeply human. It’s a story of buried secrets, emotional risks, and learning to be seen—truly seen—by another person.

The manuscript currently includes 57 chapters (about 232,000 words), and I’m still rewriting the final 10 chapters. I’d love your honest, thoughtful feedback on what works, what resonates emotionally, and how the pacing and characters land for you.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy reading, I’d be thrilled to send it in your preferred format (Google Docs, PDF, or Word), along with a simple feedback guide to make things easy. The soft deadline for feedback is July 26, but I’m very flexible with timing if you need more space.

Thank you so much for considering, Olga—I’d be honored to have your eyes on this story!

Warmly,
Laksshya Guptaa

Murray Weber | 32 comments I would like to offer my book to an interested beta reader. It is a CIA undercover thriller with an enemies-to-lovers subplot. 70,000 words

Revenge Doesn’t Sleep
He hunted a killer. But the lies hunted him.

Blurb
From the age of ten, Matt Cavallo lived for one thing—revenge. The man he called father died in a fiery car bombing, a brutal message from Sicilian crime lord Antonio Moretti, lashing out over the shame of a wife's affair. The explosion that killed them shattered two families. Matt was left an orphan. Sofia Moretti, Antonio’s daughter, was left without a mother.

From eighteen, Matt had been forged into a weapon inside the U.S. military’s elite special operations. When the CIA offered him an off-the-books mission to infiltrate Moretti’s fentanyl empire spanning the globe—he didn’t hesitate. This was the path to justice… or vengeance.

But Sofia complicates everything. Beautiful, intelligent, and unaware of her father’s criminal world, she may be Matt’s way in—or the only person who can undo him.

As Matt descends deeper into Moretti’s empire, he walks a razor’s edge between mission and obsession. Each step brings him closer to the truth and to a final reckoning with the man who orchestrated his father’s murder and drove his mother to suicide.

Perfect for fans of David Baldacci, Tom Wood, and James Patterson—Revenge Doesn’t Sleep is a pulse-pounding, emotionally charged thriller where truth is as slippery as the past it tries to bury.
