I don't know why I...maybe not resisted but was disinterested in this book for so long. It is a wonderful and original story. A world within a world. A tip of the hat to video games, the 80s, and technology while also commenting on the dangers of virtual life and large corporations.
In a dystopian world, virtual reality called OASIS is utopia. After the creator of OASIS dies, a game is unleashed inside of OASIS to win his fortune. Wade Watts spends every possible moment inside OASIS to escape his horrible reality. Due to lack of resources, he seems to have no chance in the treasure hunt game, but that does not stop him from being an avid student of the clues left behind!!!
Great fun read, even if you are not an 80s aficionado.
I loved this book- especially having grown up in the 80s. As part of "GenX" there are too few books that reflect the music and culture from my teenaged years.
I am an 80s aficionado and a gamer for many years, so this book was right up my alley. Too bad the next books by the same author were major letdowns. He is what I call a one-hit-wonder and I don't think I want to try anything else by him.
