Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

Carrie Wellenberger | 364 comments I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t until I finished and I googled the band that I realized it was all made up. Taylor’s writing sure seemed biographical and that’s a compliment. I could have done without all the addiction of the lead singers as that seems too stereotypical and too easy of a story. Other than that, I really enjoyed as she kept Camilla and Billie together.

Carrie Wellenberger | 364 comments This book starts with a explanation of what follows is from interviews. I sure believed that it was real. It wasn't until the very end when I was talking to my husband about what songs they sang and googling them that I found it to be truly made up. Taylor Jenkins really does a great job in her writing perspectives throughout.

Carrie Wellenberger | 364 comments I was impressed that Billy did not join Daisy in her hotel room when she asks. That could and would have been so dangerous, both for his sobriety and his marriage. I hate that their has to be that pull between Daisy and Billy, yes it adds to the drama but can't people just be "happily" married without outside participants.

Carrie Wellenberger | 364 comments I wish Daisy could have really found love in Nick. I know she was running off because she saw the love between Camilla and Billie. She deserves true love and I think it would have added a different perspective. Nope she was with the stereotypical addictive abuser. He could have helped her get clean like Camilla forced Billie

Carrie Wellenberger | 364 comments I thought Karen choosing to have the abortion was powerful. Although it was set in 70's, I think it would have been much more of an issue. I wish she would have explored it more. Maybe more conversations with Graham before ultimately making her own decision for her body. The subject was so powerful and destroyed their relationship but barely was hit upon

Carrie Wellenberger | 364 comments Lastly, the turn of events where the reporter/writer is Julia, Camilla and Billy's daughter, interviewing Daisy and tells her how she remembers her the last night they were together as a band is awesome. The fact that Daisy had the respect for their marriage to leave was a pretty nice ending to this well written book. Highly recommend!

Kala Dunn (randomkala93) | 38 comments I haven't stopped talking about this book. I listened to the audiobook that had a full cast of characters. The book was so well written and produced. Between the time I read the description and it stated it followed a fictional band from the 70s to the time I started the book with the authors note I had forgotten it was fiction. I was even looking up songs that they were talking about. I love the way Camila and Billy were together. He messed up and instead of pushing him away she pushed him to get better, and he did.
