Horror-adjacent, shall we say, is fine for our group. GL with your release and thanks for posting in the correct folder!
As it isn't really a horror novel (it's science-fantasy comedy), I was unsure whether to promote it on this board, but it does contain some light horror elements, lots of grim humour, and is very gothic. One of the two main protagonists, for instance, is a goth, and one of her friends is a zombie (who also has an undead cat).
The plot focuses on one Madeline Pembroke of Edinburgh. She comes from a family of undertakers, and after the funeral of the titular Zed, she witnesses a cosmic event that rearranges the universe on a fundamental level. Things that were once impossible are now possible, the absurd is the run-of-the-mill, history has been rewritten, there are dimensions ruled by gods based on mythology or emotional concepts, creatures of folklore are commonplace, some classic novels are documents of actual historical events, and Zed is alive ... sort of.
Madeline, Mable (Maddy's sorceress sister), Zed, and Nietzsche the undead cat set off to uncover the mystery of the event, but the grisly murder of a close friend and the arrival of a fantastic alien (the titular ape) make them realise that a great danger is looming.
Mable and a gaggle of unusual allies must then try to save her sister (and, in turn, the universe) from the weird, monstrous denizens of the Realm of Forgotten Things.
