Theresa (tsorrels) Effective 5/22/2009, if you want to promote your book, website, or group in the Urban Fantasy Group, you must be actively involved in the group. If you join solely to promote your book, website, or group and do not enter any of our discussions, you are spamming our group and your self-promoting posts will be deleted. This is a zero-tolerance policy.

Lisa M | 311 comments Very good policy. :)

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 42 comments What constitutes "active?" Obviously I know better than to engage in "BUY MY BOOK" practices especially since it's not out yet, but where is the active vs. inactive line? Weekly/biweekly etc.

Thanks

message 5: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Eliabeth, good question! :) I consider "active" as posting at least once every three months.

message 6: by Susan (new)

Susan Stec (thegratefulundead) | 95 comments Well, that's very reasonable. it's so hard to keep up with every marketing venue. I can do this.

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 42 comments Theresa wrote: "Eliabeth, good question! :) I consider "active" as posting at least once every three months."

Oh thank you so much for that. I was worried it was going to be weekly. I'll probably post at least monthly, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't weekly or more.

Lisa Mason (lisamason) | 12 comments Greetings, everyone! Just discovered this group and am looking forward to delving into your recommendations. I enjoy all the usual suspects: Patricia Briggs, Laurell K Hamilton, Jim Butcher, Charlain Harris. Will be buying Deborah Harkness soon.

message 9: by Louise (new)

Louise | 11 comments Hi. I have no problem posting as I genuinely love urban fantasy and I'm looking forward to being part of the group. Question though: I don't have a novel of my own to push but I do work with a publisher and sometimes have access to review copies. If I get urban fiction novels do you guys want me to post here that I have Kindle versions or whatever that some of you could review or not? I don't want to break your rules - equally I don't want you to miss out on having new novels if you would like them. They wouldn't be arcs - usually things that have come out two or three weeks earlier and where marketing is just stepping up.

Louise

Welcome to the group, Louise. You are welcome to post giveaways here in this thread. It is probably best to alert people as to what formats you offer.

Diane Cox I've just written and self- published a novella entitled 'Typewriter from Hell' There are a couple of funny things about that. 1) The book is urban fantasy, though i had never heard of the genre. It is also suspense, paranormal romance and erotic. Who knew? It's available on Amazon Kindle and is listed here on Goodreads with two 4.5 stars so far. I'm looking forward to more fun reads in this genre.

Justin Gustainis | 4 comments My new novel, KNOWN DEVIL, was published yesterday, January 28th. It’s the third book in my “Haunted Scranton” series, featuring Detective Sergeant Stan Markowski, of the Scranton police department's Occult Crimes Unit. Stan lives and works in an “alternate” version of Scranton, PA, where supernatural creatures really exist, and everyone knows about it. When a vampire puts the bite on an unwilling victim, or some witch casts the wrong kind of spell, Stan’s the one who gets the call – along with his vampire partner, Karl Renfer.

This time out, a street war between two vampire criminal gangs has erupted in Scranton. The prize: the turf to sell Slide, a new drug that, unlike any other, can addict supernatural creatures. If that’s not enough for Stan to deal with, somebody just blew up the wizard who was head of the local supernatural community. Then there’s the upcoming local election, with a well-funded group of right-wing “supe haters” trying to take over the city government, by hook or by crook.

A perfect storm of supernatural strife is descending on Scranton. Stan and Karl find themselves right in the thick of it – as usual.

The book is available both as a mass market paperback and a Kindle edition. Here's the Amazon link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0857...

Thanks for your indulgence of this blatant self-promotion.

Christine | 691 comments 2014 Creature Challenge

Another fun yearly challenge. Read five books that include creatures in any or all of the below categories. You can try for all 14 categories, or just pick a few, or even make up your own category.

◆Creatures do not have to be the main character, simply play some role in the story.
◆Each book may be used only once. If multiple creatures are present, you have to decide which category to place it under (but you can always change it later).
◆You may change your list at any time.

Duration of challenge: January 1 – December 31, 2014

Categories:
Vampires
Werewolves
Shifters (non-wolf)
Dragons
Ghosts
Aliens
Demons
Angels
Fae/Elves
Witches/Wizards
Psychics/Mediums/Telepaths
Zombies
Gods/Goddesses
Other (whatever doesn’t fit in the above categories.)

Jessica O'Gorek (geminirising1) | 1 comments Offering 20 ecopies in exchange for honest reviews on GR and Amazon. See some of my fan comments below!
Angry at the human race and its methodical destruction of her resources, Mother Earth recruits souls who have just left their bodies to serve Her, and turns them against humanity. Gemini, a clan of paranormal beings, picked from these possessed humans, emerges. A powerful, rising force proceeds to carry out Mother Nature’s plan to systematically destroy towns, cities, states… and eventually, the world. Amidst the chaos, a forbidden relationship between a human girl, Violette, and Onyx, a lead Gemini, begins. They will both find themselves in the middle of a revolutionary war that will either save, or destroy our world.
“Too often we find ourselves reading books we swore we’ve already read because people keep recycling plot ideas, character themes, and general settings. I’m glad to see this author decided to step out of that phase and write something so different and unique.” -Amazon reviewer
“Jessica O' Gorek spins a thick web that captures readers and consumes them into the fantasy she creates in her new book Gemini Rising Ethereal Fury.” - Stacie Theis
“Jessica is an accomplished writer, her character development, style and flow of the story she told is as good as any best-selling author. It was impeccable.” – Julie Darley
“Whoa! I was so shocked by this book! Before reading it I knew that it wasn't going to be your typical paranormal book. But it was so different and I mean different in an awesome way. This book was unlike anything I've EVER read before!!!” – Sharon David
“To say that I enjoyed Gemini Rising would be an understatement. I found myself drawn into the tangled web of the story and held tight on the edge of my seat!” – Lee Ryder
