Rules

Here's how the prompt swap will work.

- The order of play will be generated at random.

- The first person will select a number from a list of numbers that I provide. Each number is affiliated with a prompt. I, then, announce which prompt the first person has opened.

- The second person can either steal the open prompt from the first person. Or, they may pick a new number and open a new prompt. If they steal the first person's prompt, then the first person has the opportunity to select a new number.

- The third person may then steal either one of the opened prompts, or select a new number to open.

We continue ad infinitum until all the prompts are opened and distributed.

Each person may possess a given prompt no more than three times total.

I’m not thrilled with my pick, way too restrictive. So I will be fine with someone stealing it. I have some collections like that but limiting it to a year is tougher.

Well I definitely don't want to open the one I donated and I'll happily read Stephen King, if i keep the prompt, where I know Amy wouldn't enjoy it.

Always my fear to open my own prompt Rachel-it has happened to me..lol. You were kind to rid Amy of that one, I could see her cringing-

The funny thing was that last time I got my own and while the swapping was going on I realized I was about to start reading a book that worked for it, so I kept it.

Not true this time, I put in the Stephen King one, since I'm not a fan and that won't be changing.

I love how you guys know me so well. I love that you could actually picture me cringing. I could actually work with pun. It’s not Steven King, and it’s not my prompt. But if I end up with it at the end, you guys are gonna have to help me come up with something and that would be a really fun conversation…. I figure I should look in my October witches list. There’s got to be a pun in there. Like what the hex. Although I listen to that one. You know if I look in my audible collection, I’m likely to find a pun. But who knows I might not even end up with it. As long as I don’t end up with my own. If Jason is playing, I won’t.

To clarify … does it have to have been published that year, or a bestseller in that year? I had a similar prompt a few years ago, and saw that many books don’t become best sellers overnight.

Nancy, I won that same prompt in the last swap. I read a book that was a bestseller that year according to a New York TImes list.

Look no farther, Amy, than the Rabbi Aviva Cohen series by Ilene Schneider. Yom Killer is even seasonal. I have the Channukah one, first in series, on my TBR.

I have just lost an hour of my life looking up pun titles. If i don't keep it, its still a good list for someone. I will add this Yom Killer to my fun list - which of course I will share...

OK friends, I actually saw this message when I was burning up at the pool…. But got out of the pool to somewhat barely clad myself and go inside the building for a really important meeting with my father’s doctor. And there was a long wait there, and just before I got on the phone to wait with them endlessly, I was busy researching alliteration. Three letter starts to titles. I did come up with the secret society of Salzburg, and oona out of order. As well as go tell the bees that I am home. And I still have more of my extensive list to look through…. And I still need to research the bestsellers from 2003, 2005 and 2010. Because of other challenges, I’ve already exhausted my own birth year. But these three are those of my children. Just in case you wondered where I was leading. But I just wanted to tell you that I’m on it and then by tonight I should be able to tell you what’s up…. And Fran, I have quite a list of pun titles in case you need it. But it sounds like you’re all set.

I currently have the 3 words with the same letter and I thought it would be easy, but I have nothing in my hundreds of TBR books. I assumed that something like The Secret Society of Salzburg that Amy mentions wouldn't work because of the little word "of".

So now I'm fine if somebody steals that one from me! Actually I don't see any so far that I want.

Thanks for the heads up Amy. I have more options for my kid’s years too. Keep in mind the prompt say A bestseller, not THE bestseller. Some of the lists only show books that made it to #1 on the New York list, but the weekly lists always have a lot more books. Publisher’s Weekly is also a major list.

Robin, I don’t think words like of, the, or and count. When you say it out loud, the Secret Society of Salzburg shows why people like alliteration.

Amy, I don’t see or hear the alliteration in Go tell the bees that I’m home, but maybe it still fits the prompt.

Amy, thanks and I do have a book that will work and even match this month's tag.

It might be one which will be stolen so I'm not going to have my heart set on it. I know Theresa will have some books that fit the category because both mystery and holiday books often have titles that are puns.

Most of the books I’m finding are two words only.

My goodness, I get caught up with work insanity and crisis and meetings and zooms and all this happens - and basically nothing much moves!

While we breathlessly await Amy's move, I just want to mention a couple of general things:

It seems that most of the prompts submitted are ones that are narrower and more specific than many other prompts. I know that I deliberately added a few of those in my suggestions - and in fact at least 2 of them are among those picked! Not saying which ones other than I did not come up with the alliterative prompt. But I am finding it interesting this time around to see all the specific prompts.

Puns in titles are very common in cozy mysteries so easy to find. I'm not surprised the BnB has a few in her TBR.

@Amy - that Rabbi Aviva series I mentioned has 3 books in it - one for Chanukah, one for Yom Kippur, and one for Passover. I like the sounds of them as they sound like fun.

Prompt I put in has not yet been picked. I'm curious to see the reaction.
