Poetica_reads | 26 comments I have written a synopsis for a competition submission. I would appreciate some feedback!

“When a song can charm the gods- Orpheus believes even death can be swayed. But he soon learns music is not his salvation.”
The Lyre is a literary Greek mythology retelling; It follows the story of Orpheus the son of the muse Calliope and the God, Apollo. On Orpheus’s fifth birthday, Apollo gifts him the famed Lyre and teaches him to play. As a young man, word of his talents travelled all the way to the ears of the king Oeagrus.

On his return home from the king’s court, he meets Eurydice the wood nymph; through charm and sweet wiles they fall in love. Wedding bells soon ring: but their joy turns to ashes when Eurydice is bitten by a snake and dies. Grief-stricken, Orpheus enters the underworld to attempt to retrieve his wife back. His musical talents assuage Hades and Persephone who allow Eurydice to follow back on the condition he doesn’t look behind. Near the end his doubts surface, and his wife is lost to him forever. In his mourning, Orpheus rejects the women and finds comfort in the arms of a man. Consumed by jealously, the village women murder both, casting his lyre into the river.
