Connie Prescott | 1 comments After watching the TV show Game of Thrones earlier this year, I became slightly obsessed and I decided to read the series A Song of Ice and Fire so I could have more lore to obsess about. I read the first book, A Game of Thrones, this summer. This book and every book in the series is mammoth. However, whilst reading it, I almost forgot that it was almost 1000 pages long because I became completely absorbed. The TV show follows the plot of this book very closely, so at times it almost felt as if I was rewatching the show. Reading the book though is even more engaging. The book is told from several perspectives with chapters from both children and adults spread across the vast world of ASOIAF. The plot encapsulates the intricacies and moral conundrums in politics. Whilst set in a completely different world, we can see the dilemmas of the characters reflected in our own world. This book is a fantastic opener to the series, combining world-building and plot. It sets the tone for the rest of the series and I am very excited to begin the second book. I would recommend this to any fantasy lovers or fans of the show.
