Patch was such a complicated character. He did not have the best childhood & that does something to you. Then, he survived an unthinkable ordeal! I think he was both. A hero because he never lost focus on helping others & their families. I also think he was a victim, because he could not allow himself to have a life outside of his search. He gave up his life for his cause, even when that hurt the people who loved him most.
