Bruce | 2 comments I need some help. I'm trying to collect books that cover the British monarchy from maybe Alfed the Great (I've read the whole Uhtred series- great books but not what Im looking for) through at least Elizabeth I. Im looking for historical fiction, not biographies or academic history. I'm also not looking for bodice-ripping romance. The monarch must be a central character, not a minor supporting character. Here are the books Ive collected so far (hopefully listed in chronological order lol).

The Forever Queen - Helen Hollick (I start at Emma of Normandy)
The Chosen King - Helen Hollick
The Greatest Traitor - Ian Mortimer
All of the late Sharon K Penman novels
The Outlaw Knight -Elizabeth Chadwick
The Autobiography of Henty VIII - Margaret George

I have other books within the medeival time frame but the monarch of the time isn’t a central character which is what I'm looking for. Can anyone help me fill in the missing pieces?

Elizabeth (artemis-gunhilde) | 9 comments It isn't filling a gap, but as an alternative to cover Harold and William, I would recommend The Golden Warrior by Hope Muntz.

Jean Plaidy is an older author that wrote a complete series of English monarchs.

Bruce | 2 comments Thanks for the suggestions. I didn’t know that about Plaidy. I'll certainly check that out asap.

She's an older author, you'll probably be able to find her books at Abe books the used book store.
