BarryP (barrypz) | 3498 comments Dog Day Afternoon: David Rosenfelt
Could it even be a legal thriller if the case did not look hopeless from the start? As with other thrillers, Andy Carpenter, the lawyer, has to unpeel the onion of a complex scheme, one you might likely guess before the book tells you. (B+)

Tricky Business: Dave Barry
As you might imagine, this is a farce, and a wonderfully complex one about smuggling and a casino boat in (where else) Florida. The pace picks up constantly throughout the book, to point of being manic by the end. A wild and satisfying ride. (B+)

Hatchet Girls: Joe Lansdale
Not exactly Stephenie Plus goes to Texas, but a maturing Hap and Leaonard continue to fight the good fight with a background of very well done black humor (B+)

Cold Island: Peter Colt
An Amazon first. A child.s body is found on Nantucket Island, the Massachusetts state police send a trooper to investigate. The murder is 35 years old, but the mystery is brand new. (B+)

Full Tilt: Janet Evanovitch/Charlotte Hughes
Romance/mystery/farce in a corrupt small town (B+)

Fade In: Kyle Mills
Superspy/assassin type novel, on the order of Grey Man, but not quite in it’s league. Yet another mad scientist out to save the world by killing millions. (B)

The Oligarch’s Daughter: Joseph Finder
Had this been his only book, I might have rated it higher, but Finder seems to borrow heavily from the plots of his previous books. I might have rated it lower too, but he does it well. This is business man vs the spies. (B)

Black Lion: Carlos Viola
Elite military vs the terrorists and their plot to kill plenty of people. I have read better, I have read worse. (B)

Need you Now: James Grippando
Financiers, mobsters and spies. So much can go wrong. (B)

Kiss my Assassin” David Sinclair
Humorous spy novel, very British. Spy vs spy, all over the world. (B)

Anima Rising: Christopher Moore
Maybe his most unusual book in a string of unusual books, but in my view, not the best. The storyline follows Frankenstein;s wife, and at various times she interfaces with Hitler, Jung, and Freud, as well as a number of other characters. (B)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16925 comments Barry, looks like an interesting month, some intriguing books to consider adding - the Lansdale and the Barry sound good. I like how you described the Joseph Finder.
