The Miniaturist discussion

I rarely read fiction books and I generally dont look at reviews much to decide if I want to read a book or not.

The last fiction book I enjoyed reading was Let us descend by Jesmyn Ward, which was about slaves in a sugar plantation.

Coincidentally I chose my next fiction book to read to be The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton and I cant help but think that Agnes Meermans is connected to the old lady that owned the sugar plantation from Let us descend, because she too, has a sugar plantation, though she lives in Holland... all kinds of fan fiction is starting up inside my head.

Anyone else feel that these two books are too closely connected that they feel like they're part of the same story somehow?
