Rose | 30 comments Hi, I bought a book in the 1980s that was fictional (paperback) and featured animals that probably talked. I remember buying it because it was meant to be like Watership Down. As I recall it wasn't overly uplifting.
The cover had a badger on it and a large ball of light. It was not anything to do with The Animals Of Farthing Wood. I think it was adult but I'm sorry I really don't remember anything else.

Isabel (kittiwake) | 133 comments It could be Redwall. This cover seems close to what you describe. I thought it was a badger at first glance although it is probably a mouse.

Thank you, it definitely wasn't Redwall, but thank you

Thanks, I don't think that was it, although it looks as though it has a similar feel. I don't think it was just badgers, it just happened to be a badger on the cover. I don't remember the significance of the big ball of light annoyingly.

Adele | 1420 comments Could it be The Wind in the Willows? This edition is from 1980 The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
