Shona Gregory | 3 comments This book is a literacy masterpiece that emotively and poetically tells the story of three people, from different cultures, at different periods of time who are bound together by one thing …. Water!

Shafak should be praised for her ability to capture the spirit of a fictional novel, whilst cleverly incorporating elements of factual history, culture and their significance in the present.

The back and forth jumps through the ages with each chapter does not feel “choppy” or “disjointed” …Shafaks story telling flows as natural as a river.

This novel is a delight!

Shelly | 936 comments Just picked this one up from the library today! It's a 2-week book (instead of the usual 3 week loan), but I don't think that is going to be a problem.

Amy | 12909 comments Shelley, this is a book for you. It’s absolutely gonna be in my top 10 for this year and maybe my top 10 for life. You’ll have no trouble knocking it off in two weeks.

This book is likely to be in my top 10 of all time - I’ve brought it and will be keeping to return to over again in the future. It’s exquisite!

Amy | 12909 comments Shona, so nice to meet you. I have the feeling you and I.(and Shelly) just might be book twins. We are a really easy and open group. It’s a really nice community with interesting and warm inviting people. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out where to jump in. But we are all eager to get to know you. What are you reading next?

Shona Gregory | 3 comments Thank you … yes I’m excited. I’ve always been in love with reading but neglected my passion for a number of years and I’ve very recently started again … with full force.
My most recent reads have reviews on my profile.
My next four reads are
- Eeny Meeny - a crime thriller that my tik tok book club have selected as book of the month.
And mine are
- Tomorow and Tomorow and Tomorow
- where the crawdads sing
- another book from Shafak - yet to decide (I’ve brought most of them)
- and the courage to be disliked

I’m on a “to read” list mission - gathering old and new reads for my new nook I’m creating at home as a gift to myself, a few brand new purchases and some gems I’m finding on Vinted.

A book I am re-reading and would highly highly highly recommend but haven’t yet reviewed is “The Distance Between Us” by Reyna Grande - if rivers in the sky has your heart I would highly recommend this read also … this is one of my all time favourites that I treasure

Holly R W | 3104 comments Shona, I'm glad that you loved "There are Rivers in the Sky" and that you decided to join our group. I think you'll find a warm home here (echoing what Amy said).

My own favorite book of Shafak's is The Island of Missing Trees. And, I loved Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow.

Happy reading!

Joy D | 10069 comments Shona, welcome! I loved this book too. Elif Shafak is one of my favorite authors. If you are looking for another, I can recommend:
10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World and Three Daughters of Eve. They are very different in tone so it depends on what you are in the mood to read. I also quite enjoyed The Island of Missing Trees.
