Mike | 0 comments I would love some suggestions on our next book now that most people have made their way through Vanderbilt's story. Here's hoping we find a book that is more popular with the group as a whole!

Will Reeves | 12 comments Not sure what direction we want to head following Vanderbilt, Here are some ideas. Doesn't have to be one of these, just some thoughts.

1861 The Civil War Awakening by Adam Goodheart The 1937 Chicago Steel Strike Blood on the Prairie by John F. Hogan , Jefferson's Great Gamble The Remarkable Story of Jefferson, Napoleon and the Men Behind the Louisiana Purchase by Charles A. Cerami The Heart of Everything That Is The Untold Story of Red Cloud, An American Legend by Bob Drury , The Killing of Crazy Horse by Thomas Powers , Slavery by Another Name The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II by Douglas A. Blackmon The Black Count Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo by Tom Reiss , Empire of Sin A Story of Sex, Jazz, Murder, and the Battle for Modern New Orleans by Gary Krist

Mike | 0 comments What an excellent selection to choose from! This is definitely the kind of broad approach I was hoping for with this group.

I would vote for 1861, Slavery by Another Name, or The Killing of Crazy Horse. Let's see where everyone else comes down.

Steve | 19 comments This sounds like an intriguing possibility for the next group read.

Sherman's Ghosts Soldiers, Civilians, and the American Way of War by Matthew Carr

Mike | 0 comments Great suggestion, Steve! I'm going to put together a poll and get everyone to weigh in.

Will Reeves | 12 comments Sherman's Ghost looks like a good one, but I can't request it at my library.

message 7: by Mike (new)

Mike | 0 comments It looks like Sherman's Ghost is the winner. Although, like Will, it's going to be a bit before I can get it from the library.

Would there be any objections to reading one of the runners-up first while we each wait to get Sherman? If there are, please let me know.

Mike | 0 comments How would the group feel about reading 1861: The Civil War Awakening by Adam Goodheart first and then follow that up with Sherman's Ghosts?

message 9: by Will (new)

Will Reeves | 12 comments Sounds good. Gonna take a bit to get Sherman's ghost for me
