Anyone got any ideas for a theme or genre for our next book? I'd love to start making a list so we can start voting soon. :)

Edit: After a bit of discussion, we've chosen "fictional creatures" as our theme for this book selection. Please nominate books now!

Current nominations:

1. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, #1) by Catherynne M. Valente
2. The Bees by Laline Paull
3. Stardust by Neil Gaiman
4. Zombies Vs. Unicorns by Holly Black
5. Deep Blue (Waterfire Saga, #1) by Jennifer Donnelly
6. A Natural History of Dragons (Memoir by Lady Trent, #1) by Marie Brennan
7. The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

Submissions are closed! Please see the poll to vote!

Amy C (amy_c_books) | 20 comments How about some adult sci-fi or fantasy?

message 3: by Karen (new)

Karen | 5 comments I like the idea of creatures! Maybe a zombie theme? Other ideas: dual perspective novel or a book that takes place in two different times. I'm also really into apocalyptic fiction right now I'm always down for that :)

message 4: by Abby (new)

Abby The creature theme would be good but I feel like it's a little broad. Maybe specified to fictional creatures? Meaning ones that don't exist in reality.

What about some Terry Pratchett? Since his passing I've been wanting to read Discworld. I have The Color of Magic (one of the first books in one of the threads of his stories), but we can start anywhere.

Carly | 29 comments I don't know if this is necessarily a creature...what about books with circus freaks? Geek Love by Katherine Dunn is an amazing adult fiction about a traveling family of circus freaks. There's also Serpent Girl by Matthew Carnahan but both of those books get pretty gory since they're adult fiction. A more tame option would be a collection of short stories called Bearded Women by Teresa Milbrodt.

Ava I like the idea of creatures left open and broad. We could nominate books about mythical creatures or animals that are anthropomorphized for a main part of the story. The first thing that jumped to my mind when I read 'creatures' was The Bees.

I like fictional creatures as a theme. I think we can go a lot of different directions with that. Feel free to start suggesting books!

Ava I'd like to suggest The Goblin Emperor. I've heard great reviews and it is nominated for the Hugo and Nebula awards.

The Girl Who... looks really good and sound like it might be a bit whimsical!
