Michael Burton | 2693 comments I stumbled upon this book when it was free, The Trials of Max Q by Derek Ciccone. I have been pleasantly surprise. Good read so far.

Michael Burton | 2693 comments Hi Linda,

I just got finished watching Bosch on Amazon. It is based on Michael Connelly's character. He is an Executive Producer.

message 11: by CL (new)

CL (cljones) | 8 comments John Connolly's Charlie Parker series. Love the Charlie Parker character.

message 12: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments I think Tom does, too, and yet, I have read anything by John Connolly.

message 13: by CL (new)

CL (cljones) | 8 comments John Connolly does not write legal thrillers but Charlie Parker is an ex-police detective turned PI. Just what I am currently reading. Gray Mountain by John Grisham was a legal thriller and I do hope he writes more on the Samantha Kofer character. Her down grade from Wall Street lawyer to small town lawyer was a great read. I really enjoyed her and hope to see more of her.

message 14: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments I knew his books were not legal thrillers. Charlie Parker sounds like a great character.

message 15: by Renee (new)

Renee (rys00) The latest in the historical mystery series by Cassandra Clark, The Dragon of Handale.

Ian McEwan's The Children Act is a wee different legal thriller, but I enjoyed it.

message 16: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments Hi Renee,

I am interested to know more about Ian McEwan's The Children Act. What makes it a different legal thriller?

message 17: by CL (new)

CL (cljones) | 8 comments Skye wrote: "I knew his books were not legal thrillers. Charlie Parker sounds like a great character."

He is. The topic is a bit off kilter and sometimes alittle brutal but it's modern day good battles evil. And he has these 2 best friends that are just so polar opposite they are great. I don't usually read a series 1 right after the other, 2 books is usually my limit, but these have kept my interest. I'm on book#6.

It involved family law in the UK. There was a whole different set of games played. The story is from the judge's point of view. She is childless but has her own set of problems at home at the moment. She must make these life-shaping decisions based on ... what? And of course, she gets a smidge more involved than is healthy.

I love Greg Iles. Just an awesome writer. I have read all of his books!

message 20: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments Good to know. I will put this book on the bookshelf.

message 21: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 49 comments I too love agree Iles. My favourite is Mortal Fear

Each of his books has been so different but I have loved every single one. He had a serious car accident, I believe which slowed down his writing.

message 23: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 49 comments I haven't read a book I didn't like so far. I did not know he had an accident, that's terrible

message 24: by Michael (new)

Michael Burton | 2693 comments Hi Mellisa and Kelly,

I just did a little research on Greg Iles accident. It occurred in 2011. He was broadsided by a pick-up truck doing 70 mph and suffered almost all of his ribs broken, shattered his left foot, broke his pelvis in 4 places and his right leg was so damaged, they had to amputated it below the knee. Crazy

message 25: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments I remember that it was very serious but did not know it was that awful. Sure would have impacted anybody's life!

message 26: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments I never read Iles; I am getting so many great recommendations.

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Skye,
You will be so happy you found his books. I was enthralled from the first one that I stumbled upon at the library. Have not missed one since. It matters not at all which one you read first but the early ones set the hook in me.

message 28: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments Melissa; any specific book to start off reading?

message 29: by Renee (new)

Renee (rys00) I'm feeling bereft after finishing the latest of Maisie Dobbs series.

And I'm in a book malaise: you know right after a couple of really good reads and nothing seems interesting.

Last night I started Forty Acres, though and that's pulling me out of the malaise. So far, it is pretty great suspense, with a large side dish of food for thought.

message 30: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments Renee; I know, but it sounds like you're on the mend, now.

message 31: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Baird (melissafl) | 33 comments Skye, Nope. I read and loved Turning Angel, True Evil and Blood Memory as well as The Quiet Game and loved each of them. More thriller than courtroom drama. Should be available in the library or on Kindle.

message 32: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments Thanks, Melissa; I will check them out right now

message 33: by Renee (new)

Renee (rys00) Thanks, Skye. Yup, I think I'll pull through. ;>

message 34: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments Let me know if you do; that can be upsetting, on the other hand, you may need to take a break and do something else.

message 35: by Laronica (new)

Laronica Conway (llconway) | 17 comments Recently started reading Lisa Gardner's Tessa Leoni series. Currently reading Touch & Go, #2 in the series. I'm ashamed to admit that I had never read any of Lisa's books previously. Not sure why, but I'm enjoying her writing so far.

Hi Laronica,

Don't feel bad, I also haven't read any of Lisa Gardner's books. Let me know how you like it after you are finished.

message 37: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments I began with her very first novel; I think The Second Victim and then just read each book as it was launched.

message 38: by Christie (new)

Christie | 3 comments Have ordered 'The Quiet Game' by Greg Illes from local library.

So far I'm enjoying Lisa's writing even though I've only read one of her books and half way finished with this one. I'd say it's worth checking out from the library. Now, some stuff was a tad unbelievable, but she writes in such a way that you think 'well, maybe that COULD happen'.
I don't know about Gardner's early work with the Detective DD Warren character (who is also in the Tessa series), but so far DD's one of those characters you either love or hate. But I like Tessa.

I've not read any of his books, but just checked him out....looks interesting. What author would you say his writing closely resembles? How many of his books have you read? Will add him to the list. Thanks!

message 41: by Skye (new)

Skye | 325 comments I agree.

One of my favorite writers:)

message 43: by Christie (new)

Christie | 3 comments This will be the first Greg Illes book I have read. Up to now I have generally read Crime Fiction, mainly Scottish, English and Nordic so this group is a bit of a departure for me but it is good to discover a whole lot of new authors

message 44: by Marian (new)

message 47: by R Allan (new)

R Allan | 1 comments I'm currently reading 3 books. 172 Hours on the Moon by Johan Harstad, Feed by Mira Grant, and Dead Woods by Maria C. Poets. Not getting all the hype behind the Feed series so far. Going a little slow for me. Hopefully it gets better. Really liking the other two.

Lorraine (saanichlori) I'm read a Lisa Gardner thriller Catch Me Catch Me (Detective D.D. Warren, #6) by Lisa Gardner . It's a D.D. Warren novel and the first in this series for me.
