Bryan + College Station Public Library Friends discussion

Just finished Jamilia by Chingiz Aitmatov last night - partly to help fill in Central Asia on my map challenge. The author is Kyrgyz, and the story takes place on the Kazakh steppes close to the border with China.

There is a review on the cover calling it "the most beautiful love story in the world," (and, honestly, how is a book ever going to live up to that?), but I did enjoy it. In more typical non-American fashion, the story is realistic, the ending relatively unsatisfying without a real happily-ever-after, but the prose is lovely, and it has stuck with me. It's a good book if you want something that will linger.

I'm currently reading (well, listening to) Chime by Franny Billingsley.

" This was good. For a lot of the book, I thought the main character was being very stupid, but there was a good explanation for her behavior and it didn't ruin the story.
