I have just joined a new writing class, and submitted my wip to the group.
Some had never heard of necromancers, and one believed I had made the word up. This completely shocks me!

I'd be shocked that an urban fantasy fan wouldn't know what a necromancer was.
No, if they really read those types of books, they would surely have known about necromancers.
But then again, everybody starts off not knowing and you should explain to them what a necromancer is. Maybe even find it in a dictionary and show them.
I find it very frustrating when ppl gape at me for not knowing something.
There is always a word you don't know.

Necromancers, as in those who raise the dead, is common in fantasy as a whole. Something like a Lich may be more obscure, but chances are they aren't made up of readers of fantasy books.

What I am wondering is whether or not you feel this would be an issue with urban fantasy / paranormal romance readers, who I just assume know what a necromancer is?
Thank you :)
