For the month of June, our theme is Fairy-Tale Retellings! Please leave your book suggestions below. As usual, the most popular ones will be featured in a poll in which everyone can vote on. We will be reading the top two books.

My first suggestion is Cinder by Marissa Meyer. It is book one in The Lunar Chronicles and retells the story of Cinderella in a sci-fi/futuristic setting. I have read the first two books in this series and I loved them both.

My second suggestion is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. This is a recent new adult release that retells the story of Beauty and the Beast with faeries. I have been dying to read this, but my copy hasn't shipped yet.

Nicole (a-novel-thing) I've gone through a fairytale retelling marathon for the months of April/May so far, so I'm a bit burnt out and will be changing it up a bit as soon as I finish A Court of Thorns and Roses. However, I thought I put some suggestions in the mix.

Other than A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Lunar Chronicles, I would recommend Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay. I've actually gotten quite a few fellow teachers from work reading this one. It's another Beauty and the Beast retelling but done in a unique way.

Splintered was also good. I've only read the first book thus far and the others keep whispering at me. It's an Alice in Wonderland retelling... Does that count as fairytale??? Either way, also a different twist that I liked. Especially with the curse and Wonderland creatures. If you like the Alice retellings, The Looking Glass Wats was super and would also appeal to the guys in our group; it was recommended to me by two guys a few years ago.

Whatever you all choose for the next month, I hope you enjoy!

Sorry, but we've actually already read that book for our March theme of Under-Hyped.

Splintered sounds interesting. Alice in Wonderland is actually not fairy-tale, though many mistake it for one. If Splintered is a popular suggestion, then I guess it doesn't really matter.

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I really want to recommend Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. It's a retelling of that fairy tale (I always forget the name) with the brothers that get turned into swans. It's one of my favorite books, but it's really dense and has some more adult themes so I'm not sure if it would be a popular choice. I think it's beautiful though and I wish more people would read it!

Besides that, I would recommend Nameless by Lili St. Crow. I got it from Book Outlet but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Another choice would be Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge.

Gah, I loved A Court of Thorns and Roses, probably my favorite fairy tale retelling so far!

Elizabeth this sound fun. I wish I would have waited to have read Kingdom Series Collection Books 1-3 (Kingdom, #1-3) by Marie Hall because that series is great. So if it's ok I'll put down 2 books:
1: Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter by Breeana Puttroff
2: Prince Charming Must Die (The Grimm Chronicles #1) by Isabella Fontaine (The Grimm Chronicles Book)

Viola | 35 comments Because of the release of A Court of Thorns and Roses I'd like to recommend East.
It's based on the fairytale 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' which is about a girl who has to go on an epic adventure to rescue her prince and fight for her happy ending. Besides Beauty&Beast it's the other main influence Sarah had for her story and you'll discover many similarities. Also the writing is stunningly beautiful.

Aisha (aisha_i) These are all great choices.
I go with Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer and Beauty (Folktales #1) by Robin McKinley

Mrs. Kristin (kristin_kay) | 33 comments I just finished reading A Court of Thorns and Roses and would like to read Cruel Beauty as I have heard some people think its better.

message 10: by Katie (new)

Katie McCollum (katieamccollum) I'd like to recommend Tiger Lily. I'm not sure if, like the Alice in Wonderland suggestion above, that fully counts, but I've seen really positive reviews on it and it's been on my shelf for a while. :) I'll second Cruel Beauty as well because I loved it. Hodge's latest book, Crimson Bound, was really great too!
