Hey everyone,

I wanted to run an idea past you. I don't think there's anything inherently WRONG with our current system of picking a book and reading it together over a certain month or set of months, but I think we could do something better. It's a little awkward to come to this group after certain chapters to talk about the book and the discussion threads don't seem to be as active as they could be. I know I forget to come share my thoughts sometimes.

What if instead of these rigid threads, we picked a handful of books over a season, like summer books, fall books, etc. - then we create one thread per book to discuss them. Each thread will essentially be a place to buddy read these various books with the other members in this group. Does that make sense / sound easier?

Maybe we could have 3 books per season, so you can participate in as many or as few as you'd like but still feel involved.

Let me know your thoughts, and if enough people like this idea, we should start in June. We'll just make sure Stardust is one of the books on the list. :)

I guess the idea would be to talk about it after you've finished reading it, but another idea would be to have 2 threads per book -- a spoiler free one, and a spoiler one.

Shannon (crystaltokyos) If I'm understanding correctly, you're basically saying that we'd have a bigger selection of books to choose what we'd want to read from? For instance... threads for book #1, book #2, and book #3, and you get to choose which book you want to read (or you can read all of them) and participate in each discussion. If so, I don't mind that idea at all! It's a little different from other reading groups I'm a part of, so it makes it more interesting. I also like the idea of streamlining it a bit because I don't always have something to say for each chapter in the book I'm reading. Like you said, it makes it less rigid.

Colin Barrow | 37 comments This idea sounds worth trying to me. It lets people focus on the books they're more interested in without becoming disconnected from the group

Hitzuji | 1 comments I really like this idea. Specially since sometimes I don't participate because I can't get the book, and that way it might be easier to get one of the many books suggested.

Jasmine | 7 comments I think this sounds like a good idea. It would bring more discussion, more books, and it would be easier to get at least one of the books.

Samantha (sibraver) | 18 comments I think this is a great idea but I also think we need to have a spoiler system in place :)

Jen | 3 comments I haven't read a book for this club yet I was planning on reading Stardust June but I do like this idea! I think it would be cute if each month the books had a different theme maybe? Like for June the books can be more summery or have more of a summer feel to it. Or maybe at least one of the books for that month fit a theme. Eh, I don't know.

But I like the idea of multiple books because if you're not interested in reading one of them then you have more options.

Louise Hanley (louisehanley) | 6 comments Sounds like a great idea :-)

Abby (abcadab) | 36 comments I love that idea :)

Tasha | 13 comments I actually like the way we do it now, so I don't have to worry about spoilers past where I am in the book but can see spoilers for what I've already read. I think having 3 books per season instead of one per month would work well though, More freedom to read what you want in the order you want without feeling left behind.

message 13: by Trini (new)

Trini | 14 comments This sounds like a great idea! I would really appreciate the multiple-books-per-season thing. That way, if we can't get access to a book for whatever reason, we could get another book instead. However, I do think that we should leave the method of multiple threads for one book and separate the book into groups of chapters. That way, there wouldn't be any spoilers. Overall, sounds great!

message 14: by Mary Kathryn (new)

Mary Kathryn | 2 comments I haven't read any of the books in this club yet because I can never get them in time to stay caught up. But I love the idea of being able to choose from a few--so we have time to get them, and we can choose our preference :) I agree about spoiler system though. I think that's an important issue to consider.

message 15: by Abby (new)

Abby The spoiler situation is an easy thing to fix, actually. Just use the spoiler tag! That way, we can discuss and view spoilers only if we want to see them. I just hope that everyone would be considerate of each other in that regard. It seems to work well in another group I'm a part of.

Mary (bookzlover) I use the goodreads mobile app and I don't see how to do the spoiler tag on here so that would be a problem. I like the idea of multiple books per season, but I like the idea of keeping 3-4 discussion threads per book and then the last thread would be to discuss the whole book with all the spoilers.
