Discuss The Mortal Instruments here.

Which book was your favorite?
Who's your favorite character and why?
Who's your favorite villain and why?
Why do all the titles start with City of...?
We're you happy with the ending?
If you were the author, what would you write differently?

Sinead I didn't love this series as much as Infernal Devices to be honest. I enjoyed but I didn't get all feelsy like I did with Tessa/Will/Jem.

If I had to pick a favourite book it would be City of Lost Souls as I enjoyed Clary's adventures with Jace and Sebastian. Although my favourite part of the entire series was when Tessa showed up at Luke and the mom's wedding (forget her name!) Tessa is by far one of my favourite heroine's EVER.

I liked the ending, but mainly because Tessa and Jem are in it. I hope they have a really big role in Clare's newest series!

Anna | 4 comments I read mortal instruments but not infernal devices what's the difference between the two and how are they similar?

Janeja S | 1 comments I honestly like a more whats going to happen next kind of books. They are really great because it has you wondering what is going to happen before the next chapter. I would like for people to comment there favorite books so i can try to read them to compare them of what i like
them

Example: The Program

Melissa Craven I was really happy to see this discussion open. I'm new here so this is the first topic I've jumped into. I am about 20 pages from finishing the fourth book and it is definitely not my favorite of the series. There is so much I love about TMI, but this one hasn't really gripped me like the others. I think Fallen Angels, falls into that "transition novel" trap that some series just can't avoid. I feel like the story is going somewhere good, but Fallen Angels is the bridge from book three to book five and it just dragged a bit for me. I am hoping Lost Souls will pull me back into what I loved about the first three books.
But, I will say I absolutely love Simon in this book! Clary sometimes gets on my nerves. I wish she would dial up her inner badass just a little more and not always need someone to save her.

I'm going to reread TMI and TID this summer. I've forgotten so much.

New covers were revealed this week for TMI. What do you think? I love them...they're great, but I'm kinda nostalgic about the original covers too.

I am glad to see their heads aren't cut off at the top in this version! That always bugged me, but I'm with you, I do still like the originals.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) I didn't love TMI as much as TID, I was much more interested in Jem/Tessa/Will story, and Tessa is far more amazing a protagonist than Clary, who gets on my nerves A LOT. She's clueless a lot and much more like a damsel in distress than a heroine. Idk, I spent half of City of Glass wanting to knock some sense into her. Also, I dislike Jace with a passion, at least in the first three books (the only ones I've read so far), even though Will reminds me a little bit of him sometimes (and I think that's the main reason I also disliked Will at the beginning of TID). My favorites are the Lightwoods (especially Isabelle, she's my precious little cupcake) and Magnus. I'll be reading the final 3 books because I want to know how it ends and because I want to see Jem and Tessa and how they'll be involved in the story.

Kelsey (kelseypartridge) I loved the series so much! Jace had to be my favorite character because he was so sassy and perfect. City of Lost Souls is my favorite book by far because I have an obsession with fictional characters living together haha. Also, I love Sebastian (I wish I didn't but I do)so he's my favorite villain and he made me love CoLS even more. I personally thought City of Heavenly Fire wasn't so great, but the epilogue and the Malec scenes made up for it :)

by the way, I ship Clace and Malec, but Sizzy is my OTP

Kelsey (kelseypartridge) Also, I watched the movie, not knowing it was based off a series and loved it. Then, my brother said it was a series and we owned the first 2 already. After I read the first 5 books (CoHF wasn't out yet), I realized the movie was SO TERRIBLE. Now, I'm realy looking forward to the TV show because the fact that they're making it at all means SOMEONE official realized the movie wasn't loyal to the books when it should have been.

Hannah Faith (noveltybookreader) | 8 comments My favorite book was definitely City of Heavenly Fire. It was absolutely beautiful and it was a great conclusion to one of my favorite series. My favorite character is Jace because he is Jace. My favorite villain is most definitely Sebastian. He is the best villain out there.

Kiki Justice | 3 comments I LOVE The Mortal Instruments and anything Cassandra Clare. My favorite book has to be City of Heavenly Fire. How everything ended was so beautiful.
My favorite character has to be Magnus Bane. He's just too great.

Casandra Clare to Write a New Trilogy Centered Around Magnus Bane

Clare is teaming up with bestselling author Wesley Chu for the new adult series set for a November 2017 release.

Being that Magnus Bane is about 800 years it should be an adult book or my newly created genre: Young Immortals under 1,000.

I love Magnus Bane so I'm so excited! Are you?

What story would you like Cassandra Clare to tell?

message 15: by Natália (new)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) SO EXCITED! More Magnus for me, yay! Can't wait to see what we'll get from Magnus past (or maybe present as well?)!

Good point...I'm not sure which would be better. Maybe a mixture of past and present? Or maybe it will be the story of Magnus and that wicked vampire enchantress Camille?

I wonder if "Shadowhunters" would complicate a book set in current time because some viewers would get confused or maybe they would give a disclaimer stating that the the events occurred after the Mortal Instruments? If that's the case I wonder if Alec and Magnus would still be together. I'm sure Cassandra Clare, her co-writer and editors know how to handle every situation.

When I was growing up we did not have books like these. I don't think we had any paranormal young adult books. We had V.C. Andrews, Judy Blume and S.E Hutton. I read more adult books in the 70's than I do now. Young adult is now for every age from teen and up. We are experiencing the golden age of young adult books. I hope it never ends.

The Mortal Instruments replicated the feeling I had when I watched Star Wars for the first time. It was amazing and there was nothing to compare it to. I actually prefer the second series. It was so emotional and that ending was so beautiful. I've never read anything like that before.

Has anybody read Lady Midnight? What did you think?

I started Lady Midnight, but I've put it on hold. I'll try to get to it this fall. I believe the reviews have been pretty good and most people like it.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) I love coloring things and I'm itching to get my hands on at least 3 coloring books - Harry Potter, Doctor Who and The Lunar Chronicles one. Maybe TOG as well, and now The Mortal Instruments! I can't wait to see all those beautiful images!

Coloring books are the "in" thing. They are a great way to express some creativity and relax. It's always good to try to exercise various parts of your bran too. Have fun with those books Natália.
