still good ole hard copies for me! I need to get Firestarter. It's in at the bookstore, I just need to pick it up. Reading Rebecca in the meantime. Finished The Shining. Absolutely LOVED it. Haven't read such a good book in a long time. Read 683 pages in under a week working a full time job.

Benjamin (ben21) I use a kindle myself.

Autumn (ottie) | 1 comments I use a Kindle 2

message 4: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan (jonathan_maberry) | 7 comments Lately I've been listening to audiobooks while I drive. I'm fighting deadlines to several publishers and touring in support of several books, so while I don't have time for print at the moment, I can get my book fix thanks to CDs.

message 5: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) Im not keen on the kindle idea, I can see the appeal don't get me wrong but I prefer my hardcopies :). Never tried audio books either but I wouldn't rule them out!

message 6: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) Yas, you've never listened to an audio book? I can't just sit and listen to one, but if I'm on a walk or driving in my car or cleaning up the house I love to listen to audio books. It's nice to have this option since I have limited reading time with work, husband, and kid to tend to.

I like paper.

message 7: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) I was playing with the Sony Reader at Borders last week. I have to say that I love the idea, I just don't like the execution. It takes 3 3-pages to equal one real book page and it's really annoying the way it goes all blurry when you turn the page. It takes as long for the thing to turn pages as it take me to read one. (I read pretty fast.) E-readers are going to have to overcome that before I'll be willing to shell out the cash for one.

I can't do audio books. I don't commute and I barely have the attention span for short story podcasts.

message 8: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) I like my paper books. You can tell a favorite book by the spine, it's all bent and cracked up. :)

message 9: by Paul (new)

Paul I'm happy to read stuff electronically, on a PC. I'm even happier to read them in actual paper. Can't say I'm very enthusiastic about the e-readers I've seen, mainly for the same reasons as Sandi.

I've only ever listened to one audio book - but it was the 13-CD collection of the BBC radio adaptation of Lord of the Rings. I listen to it often.

message 10: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan (jonathan_maberry) | 7 comments It's just another kind of performance. For me, with my crazy schedule, it's the only way I'm going to get caught up with all the books I want to read.

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I like audiobooks but attention tends to wander when i listen to them, same as it does with music. I'm listening to Duma Key right now anytime i do some big project, like clean the house. My commute to work is only 3 minutes so listening in the car is out.

message 12: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I love hardcovers. For me they are permanent and really last a lot time. But unfortunately, I have a bad back that is progressively getting worse, so my back isn't a fan of hardcovers lately. Paperbacks are great for the ease in carrying. Maybe someday I might get a Kindle. Can't afford it right now. But there is nothing like the feel and even smell of a book. (Ok, I'm wierd, I know. lol)

I'm going to publish 2 eBooks for Sony Reader or Kindle or any other elec. reader I can. It's my only out for publishing my work at this time.

I've never listened to an audio book, not that I'm against them, just have not looked into it. Writing takes up nearly 55 percent of my day, eating and sleeping takes up the balance--reading is a luxury. I love a new paperback book (I no longer purchase hardcovers, too expensive).

Like Kathy, I have a bad back and sitting at the computer writing takes up my feel-good hours. I'm retired. I will buy an eReader. In fact, I'm now on Borders.com looking at the Sony Reader.

I saw on Amazon's homepage recently that you can download a version of Kindle to your PC - and it's free. Of course the books aren't free, but hey - Has anyone tried this?

message 16: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin (ben21) I wouldnt think its any different then reading any other book on the PC. The kindle is a device, not an app. I have a kindle and am a huge fan of it, cant understand why they would advertise having a kindle on your pc. Any chance of linking us to it?

Benjamin (ben21) "Hrmm wow. I think thats a mistake by amazon."

And wow your fast at responding lol.

lol hanging out at work, reading and waiting for the phone to ring. makes for an exciting day...bleah. well - the reading is fun at least and I'm not getting many interruptions. :)
I think it's a neat idea - I could get a netbook, download this app and buy kindle books for less than I would a hardcopy, and still read in bed or wherever. I'm kind of excited about the idea.

message 20: by LinBee (new)

LinBee I prefer to read good old fashioned books, paperback or hardback doesn't matter, but I also like to listen to audio books in the car. I will also read on a computer, but it has to be a short story. My head starts hurting after too long.

message 21: by Leah (new)

Leah (ling_ling) I prefer have the real physical book in my hands when I read. I love the feel of turning the pages and the weight of the book.. I even like the smell of a good old book.. ^_^

I also prefer hardcover when I can get it because I do not like the look of a worn spine on my bookshelf.. even if that means a book is well read..

message 22: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I totally agree, Leah. I bent or cracked paperback spine makes me so sad. I've always believed that you're supposed to be gentle with books.

message 23: by Jerrod (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) I do read many docs on my PC/Netbook and have tooled around with the Kindle for BC beta. But as for a E-Reader... not yet. I'm waiting for the ASUS EEE Reader early in 2010. I'm an electronics guru and cannot condone spending 200+ dollars on B&W 16 greyscale device that only reads books. E-ink is great, but it's still in it's infancy, but once near maturity, it will be a rival display form factor, especially since it can fold and roll and intergate a touch function, unlike LCD's.

But I digress, I still like ready paper books and don't do the audio book thing.

Jerrod (liquidazrael) Rob wrote: "^ He really IS the electronics guru. I take Jerrod's advice very seriously."

Far to kind Rob, is that program still working out for you?

message 25: by Jerrod (last edited Dec 12, 2009 09:46AM) (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) keep it the way it is if it's working for you. It's a feature of almost all programs that upon starting it checks version numbers with whats available, if not the same, it lets you know so you can purchase an upgrade. If you run into things you can't decode, let me know, I'll get you the upgraded version.

message 26: by Cindydee (new)

Cindydee (damnerama) | 5 comments I read paperback/hardcover. I don't like audio books, I find the narrators bore me or just don't have the right sound for the book in question, most times.

I prefer paper far more than electronic, but if I could find an e reader for a cheap price, I would definitely pick one up. And by cheap, I mean I will probably never hold a kindle in my hands.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm a nook user myself.

message 28: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I recently got myself a Kindle. I'm pretty excited with my new toy! I'll always buy books and collect them....nothing can replace them, but it's pretty cool to have this convenience!

message 29: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 4 comments I may be somewhat of a Luddite, but I need to read - and be surrounded by - 'real' books. I prefer hardcover for their lasting value, durability, look and smell (old or new, they impart their personality in their scent).
Try to curl up with a cup of Java and an E-device? Not me, thanks.
I very occasionally listen to an audio.

message 30: by Layton (new)

Layton (thunderinourhearts) I bought a Kindle a few months ago and read two books on it. I put it down on a shelf and forgot about it because I'd rather read print. I don't know why, maybe it is because a like how it feels in my hand or something. I just can't get into e-books.

message 31: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 3 comments I read books (paperback is preference), kindle and audiobooks in the car. Favorite place to read is in bed with tons of pillows.

Bobby Bermea (beirutwedding) | 8 comments I read books.

message 33: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (littlemissred3) I read on my Kindle mostly, but if something comes my way, I'll read that too.
