I read this small novel translated from the Italian last month for a reading challenge group. The story features a young boy who lives with his father, mother, and sister in a very small village in Italy. During a particularly hot summer spent with friends, the boy makes a discovery that will forever change his world and thrust him quickly into some horrific life lessons. I believe this book earned 3/4 stars in Bookmarks; while the writing was good, I disliked the plot immensely - this is just not what I enjoy reading. It was disturbing and jarring and everything the author wanted it to be, but it wasn't for me. I also tried reading I'll Steal You Away a couple of years ago and couldn't get into it at all.
