Jason (jason_b) Finished! Please see my review, and perhaps that will trigger some comments. This is my first book in The Classics group, so I don't know your standard operation procedures for discussion.

Erik | 9 comments Very nice review!! You really hit the nail on the head.

I read this book last year, and thought it was going to be the death of me. He definitely writes like he is being paid by the word. I think the only other work I've heard of by him is Les Miserables, which is just as wordy. But there is a silver lining. Bragging rights.

Jason (jason_b) Erik, funny you mention 'paid by the word.' I came very close to saying exactly that in my review and comparing him to Dickens, who, indeed, was paid by the word on several of his works.

I think I'll give Hugo another chance by reading Les Miserables. I've heard that it's actually better than Hunchback, but I'll have to let the folks in this group let me know--they read it several months ago as book-o-the-month.

Sadie Jason I agree whole-heartedly with your review. When you finally get to the characters and the main storyline it is amazing. The interactions between Quasimodo and Esmerelda are heartwrenching and tender. I love the story.
