The only rule to this game is to recommend a book that you liked. (It doesn't have to be related to the prior post and you can post more than once--but try to do it one book at a time.)

First Recommendation:

Contact
Contact by Carl Sagan

message 2: by Anna (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) I totally recommend the Harry Potter series. Even more, I recommend the audio books. The narrator, Jim Dale, is fabulous. The first 5 Harry Potter books were our first introduction to audio books and believe me, it's a hard act to follow. It's like watching a movie without the TV. It's great.

Anything by Tamora Pierce is recomended! And i agree with Vincent and Anna those are also very good books ♥

message 6: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (fiona64) Hmm. Mightily tempting to recommend my own work, LOL. Instead, I'll recommend a book that was recommended to me and that I thoroughly enjoyed:

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

K.A. Okagaki (kaokagaki) | 4 comments I recommend Liar

It's YA contemporary fiction and fabulous. A great example of the unreliable narrator first person POV.

message 10: by Darcia (new)

Darcia Helle (darciahelle) If you're interested in the drug culture and how it evolved, from the "Beat Generation" to the present, the political movement and the social movement, Can't Find My Way Home: America In The Great Stoned Age 1945-2000 by Martin Torgoff is an excellent read.

Bernadette (bernadettesimpson) | 15 comments Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

YA sci-fi and absolutely brilliant!

Cecilia | 167 comments I'm still pushing for everyone to read "Fool" by Christopher Moore! I thought it was laugh out loud funny.

Fool A Novel by Christopher Moore

message 17: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana Urbanek | 10 comments Agree -- Fool is super, especially if you know your Shakespeare, as there is much Elizabethan-style fun poked here -- heinous eff-ery most foul! As a fan of author Christopher Moore, I have to say, however, that Fool is not that much like his other books. I like how casual, irreverent, and downright silly his characters are, and most (aside from Pocket) were necessarily a bit more stiff in the un-merry old England (or future America, if you subscribe to that theory) of this book. Nevertheless, Fool is another must-read Moore gem!

message 18: by Mandy (new)

Mandy A really liked A Dirty Job by Moore, that was laugh out loud funny.

message 19: by Cecilia (new)

Cecilia | 167 comments Yep...since I first read "Practical Demonkeeping" several years ago, I've been a fan. I also enjoyed "A Dirty Job", too!

Can't wait to read his next tome...coming out soon!

Glad to see there are other Moore fans out there! Now if we could just get Moore to be a Goodreads author!!!

Thanks, all.....

Carmen | 22 comments I recommend The Shamer Chronicles by Lene Kaaberbol's

The Shamer's Daughter (The Shamer Chronicles Book 1) by Lene Kaaberbol The Shamer's Signet (The Shamer Chronicles Book 2) by Lene Kaaberbol The Serpent Gift (The Shamer Chronicles Book 3) by Lene Kaaberboel The Shamer's War (The Shamer Chronicles Book 4) by Lene Kaaberbol

I found these books at the library and loved them. But for some reason they are not well known at all.

Jaleta Clegg | 41 comments Small Gods by Terry Pratchett is one of my favorites of his Discworld series.

Small Gods The Last Hero: A Discworld Fable

And my favorite picture book, at least this week. Last Hero by Terry Pratchett.

Latest favorite romance? Roarke by Frances Pauli. Charming debut by a fun author.

Frances Pauli (her book isn't showing for some odd reason)

I'm also tempted to push my own book but it isn't my favorite at the moment. Too many painful editing memories. LOL

Laura Rittenhouse | 53 comments The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard

This is my favorite book. And it's very unique in that the climactic point of the book happens after the book is over. You have to read it (and maybe post back to me if you don't see it - which LOTS of people don't) to find out what I mean.
