Yeah for Count!!! That's my first, first, first choice! (In case it wasn't obvious since I keep nominating it in the classic months!)
The Portable Dorothy Parker
Great Expectations

I secound the yeah, I vote for "The Count of Monte Cristo" great summer read! =)

Anna Karenina
The Portable Dorothy Parker (only third because I have read it like 30 times). But I am DYING to know Meghan's reaction to it. I can't tell if she will LOVE it or HATE it.

I was actually going to nominate TPDP (because I went out and bought it) but I kind of got the vibe that people were in a Russian saga kind of mood. But I'm all for Dorothy. So thanks for nominating her!
Oh, and Monte Cristo is seriously one of the most fun "classics" I've ever read. I personally don't think it's long enough for 3 months though. It reads like a summer blockbuster, fast and furious.
Oi, Meghan! I nominated TPDP first! Am I chopped liver over here?? ;D
I'm PRAYING it's Monte Cristo for the same reason as Courtney... because as much as I want to read it (DYING TO), I don't think I'll do it otherwise, it's just sooo dang long! But I'm thrilled to hear it's a great, fast read!
Too bad Les Miserables isn't on the list! That's the other huge one I want to get to.

Michele, you should talk to Erie then. He LOVES Les Miserables, and will surely have a great time persuading you to read it. Hee.
Am loving the nominations so far. Can't wait to vote!

ok...confused newbie...again...um, I thought this was the vote?! *blushes*

The Count of Monte Cristo really makes me drooling. Frankly, I just don't "understand" about this summer reading, since Dini and I lived in tropical country (rain & dry season only) :)
Anyway, since the rain season is almost over in here, and we're heading for a long dry and hot season for the next six months. So, indeed it's "summer" in here :)
Les Miserables for a long hot summer anyone?
Michele, I'll be more than happy to persuade you to read Les Mis, even dancing Macarena if I have to! :)

And Erie, you are just mean, mean, mean. It's still snowing in Michigan this month! It's been the longest winter in Michigan since 1922 (or something like that). But we're having a heat wave right now. I believe it's getting in the 50s!

There are so many good nominations here! I don't know how I'll choose!! Maybe we should keep up the one long book over 3 months thing for a while until we read several of them.

And Meghan--sorry if it's still snowy in Michigan.. Really, cause I'm in the middle of sunbathing while I'm posting this ;)

I think you will LOVE Dorothy Parker, but it might take you a minute to warm up to her. She is bitter, bitter, mean and bitter. But really funny and a brilliant writer. And terse. So its not a novella you read, but a spare and brilliant story or poem that socks you in the eyes. I have been deeply in love with her for easily ten years.
They should have adapted some of her stories at the time and had Bette Davis play them. In her prime, she could have pulled it off stone cold.
I LOVE the idea of some long classics reads. TPDP is perfect for it and there are several LONG classics I really need to face.

Sarah - It better be flippin scorching!! I fully intend of baking myself into oblivion.
Erie - If I didn't like you so well, I'd say I hate you for that last comment. (Shaking fist in your general direction!!) MEANIE!!

Me and my big mouth always got me in trouble, hehe..
sorry Meghan--I hope you take back your "curse" upon me, haha... and apparently my "summer" have to wait until next month...
That's funny and a little sad, Erie! Sorry your sick. Closing this post now... time to vote gang!

So, gang, nominate away. Since we don't have this chance too often, I'll not limit the number of books you can add to the list. Just remember if you are nominating multiple books that not only are they competing against one another as well as the other's choices so if there is one you are particularly interested in, you might hone in on that book.
We do want the nominations to be from the RGBC list. This is not a combination nomination. We will be doing separate monthly nominations for (shorter) companion book during June, July, and August. We also are not restricting it to a classic or a modern... Just so it's long!
Have fun!
*Nominations will close on the 22nd, as always, and voting will begin the following day.
