Al Mascareñas (goodreadsalsmemoir) | 2 comments Hi folks! I decided to increase your ranks by twenty percent. :) I hope it's okay to break the gender barrier here. It seemed that you were all ladies, but I didn't see any restrictions.

What am I reading? Teacher Man. Really interesting. Frank McCourt's memoir of his teaching career, the last of his three memoirs. People seem to love it or hate it. It does not present the archetypal teacher that too many Americans seem to have in their head - no life outside of teaching, putting career before all else, etc. I loved it.

I'm going to start a group discussion here about my own book (shameless self-promotion). It's LATE DELIVERY, A MEMOIR. It's about discovering at age fifty a family secret, that I had been switched at birth. No shit.

Well, check out the group discussion (as soon as I get it up). I'll try to send some people over in this direction. Ciao.

Al Mascareñas (goodreadsalsmemoir) | 2 comments Hi Lisa. Your friend's story sounds interesting. My book is available. I have a website, www.latedeliverymemoir.com. It's also available on amazon.com and there's a link to it here on goodreads.

Thanks for the head-up on Galway Bay. I'll add it to my to read list. I find the famine period and emigration to Chicago fascinating, partly because I used to live in the city.

Dara S. (dara85) | 2 comments I just finished David by Marie Rothenberg. It is about a young boy who is burned when his father sets the motel where they are staying on fire. HE was burned over 90% of his body and it is a wonder he survived.

Lisa (lisarosenbergsachs) | 20 comments I just finished reading Half the Sky. This book was extremely inspiring. Another book that I recommend is Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson.

Lisa (lisarosenbergsachs) | 20 comments I recently read The Girls Who Went Away. This book was the stories of women who had given their babies up for adoption prior to 1973. It is a story that needs to be told. Right now I'm reading Hellhound On His Trail about the MLK assassination and getting angrier and angrier.

Lisa I'm reading "The Fractured Hues of White Light" which I was lucky enough to win in a first-reads giveaway on goodreads. Author - Laura J. W. Ryan. I just got started as I have been working this week, but plan to dig in with a vengence after tomorrow (on my week off). Can't wait to read and review....seems to be a good one!

Dero | 4 comments I just finished "Home Before Dark" by David, Kate, Michael and Sam Treadway. It is written by the entire family of David, who is diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. Chapters tell each family member's story.

Dero | 4 comments I just read "Ten Degrees of Reckoning". It was such a heartbreaking story about the single survivor of a boating accident and her trying to get justice for the loss of her husband and two children.

GR Sans | 1 comments Hi all. I'm reading Persepolis, a graphic memoir. So far so good.

Lisa Hi all. I needed something lighter as my last read was too overly dramatic and not particularly realistic - not at all what I had in mind and definitely a downer. I am currently reading Hyper-chondriac: One Man's Quest to Hurry Up and Calm Down by Brian Frazer - a memoir, but definitely on the lighter side (and just what the doctor ordered)....entertaining and so far so good!

Sharon (fiona64) I just finished reading Huck The Remarkable True Story of How One Lost Puppy Taught a Family--and a Whole Town--About Hope and Happy Endings by Janet Elder and enjoyed it very much. The author is a breast cancer survivor, and her family's puppy is a great part of her recovery process.

Sharon (fiona64) Another good doggy story: Oogy The Dog Only a Family Could Love by Larry Levin

Catherine Hultman I am currently reading "Citizen Cohn", a biographyof the late Roy Cohn whose life was such a study in hypocrisy. Extremely thorough, balanced account of the man & the monster.

Looking for a memoir about forgiveness? How about stubborness and faith? My fathers neglect, alcohol and cheating on my mother end in divorce and I find my own way of pressing on through it all. Right or wrong, I share my reactions to my own husbands wrongful death and my challenge with not one, but two children with crohns disease. It's inspirting. It's brutally honest. It's thought provoking. It's funny, personal and faith filled. A great book for a book study.
